Have you ever had a restless night? Have you ever wished for sleep...and found nothing but wakefulness? It's quite maddening...

    This second, next second...
my thoughts just keep on spinning
    This hour, next hour...
oh my yes the clock is grinning!

    Tick, tock...TICK, TOCK
    It's madness at its best!
    the mind controls of rest
    fluffy little lambs...indeed!
    1, 2, 3
    With no remorse
    they trample ME!

Call a doctor, call a priest
    ...I'm levitating freely...
    Pop a few valerian
and chase them back with rum

    I hear them crawling

    ...toss and tumble down...

    "Good night sweet prince, forever..."

Sometimes the mind has been racing so much it will not stop to let us sleep whether influenced by the overexposure to stimulants or just some manic demonsions wanting attention. Enough non-sleep is quite unhealthy, so I hear. In such cases it's off the caffeine and on to the alcohol to balance out the system. Never heard of valerian before now... Strictly medicinal bourbon in my own case, although sangria is also nice. To your health!

Well yes and I used to hate it. Eventually after wondering about it all, I came to the conclusion that if I cannot fall asleep it must be as sign that I do not need rest but to do something worthwhile. So I do something worthwhile.
An d spend the time to keep busy with what I like best. No pills no drinking just em and timelessness alone.
Better than wearing yourself out by tossing around the clock. I am a PS3 RPG gamer at my age 75 and well that a good solution. Skyrim does not mind sleepless hours.
    luv it.
    Good poem. Well done. JM
