Death stands by my door

Death stands by my door
Whispering sweet sounds
Knocking intermently
But I refuse to let him in

Each knock is followed by dread
A powerful yet quiet reminder
That time is quickly slipping
Soon the darkness will ensue

Regret is quickly claiming me
Standing at my shoulders
Along with every knock it alludes
That it shall stay with me

Regret will always be there
And when Death finally crosses the threshold
Regret will hold my hand
And drag me to my end

"do not go gentle into that good night"

it will take me kicking and screaming and dragging my feet.

not that we can't be spiritually and emotionally ready, but why go sooner than we need to...

i like the "i'd like to stick around a bit longer" attitude of this.

but the sadness at the end is that regret will take over...what we really hope for is to balance the ledger at the end.

and die without regrets...being the eternal optimist i was disappointed by the ending...but that's just's a good poem...and realistic.
