    Description:
Gwankwe is a character in my Ergo Harper (cf) stories which are supposed to be funny but keep turning serious so that I only posted a little one of them so far! ( Some damn story has a will of its own? What is that?? ) But this is a bit of a hum that somebody heard Gwankwe singing to his little drum. He uses his collection of bones for fortune-telling or (usually) just good company and conversation.

    -------------------------------------------

Wa Za and Sha Za, princes
    born in the same hour
    of the same Queen,

And aye, here are bones of theirs
in a bag and they talk to me!

Twins to the eye but no,
    not two were those two
    but only a single disaster,

Oh, aye, bones in a bag
they are and they talk to me!

    An unusual sight in battle
    like an eight-limbed god
    on a plinth of corpses,

Now, aye, bones in a bag,
that's what they say to me!

    An unusual sight in battle
and the last sight for many,
    for many a mother's son,

And aye, here are bones of theirs
in a bag and they talk to me!

Till the day Wa Za lay
    dead at Sha Za's feet
    with she they loved,

Oh, aye, bones in a bag
they are and they talk to me!

    Then they were two!
    Then they were two!
    Now they are two,

And aye, here are bones of both
in a bag and they talk to me,

    And they talk to me
    about mens' hearts
and the black trance of desire.

Now, aye, bones in a bag,
that's what they are to me!

That's a nice little ditty. I appreciate that on several levels. It must be an interesting character to carry around such a bag, kind of like the skull thing for the Crusaders bunch.

reminds me of my first wife....everyone thought we were brother and sister because we were always together...like twins...but oh no...not like two, but a single disaster...well that is what we ended up...

and i'm not sure either of us appreciated what we had when it was gone...we probably just felt better it was gone.

yes "the black trance of desire" can turn us into a bag of bones...

i'm not too familiar with this genre of story...but i do like this piece...it's whimsical and serious all at once...it provokes a chuckle but then a tear...
