    dotsIN ANOTHER LIFEdots

    I knew you.

    You were the one
    who showed me warmth
    in the cold summer breeze.
Took me for a stroll around the moon
before the sun could even rise.

Gently holding on to each other's limbs
    we became fools in love, doomed from the start;
a good reason to let go.
Shadows settled on the place you left behind.

Do you think of me at all?
You don't come this way anymore,
but you say that you'll be back.
    I look the other way
    & I pretend
    you didn't break my chest.
    & I pretend
I don't think of you anymore.
    & I pretend
the need to know you doesn't take over
    again & again.

You look in long enough to--
    chase visions of our past
hoping to one day reveal our future
    build a secret (home)
draw a line & then cross it.

Shame on us for missing the
    comfort of our old house
    and being afflicted by fiction
and a loose grip on gravity.

Our minds troubled by empty spaces
    fill them with physical contact,
    setting fire to our insides
    to distract our thrashing hearts
    & puzzled minds.
    An impulse of desolation paints us red;
there's no where we can hide.

    What will we become
when everything is as it should be
    & you leave?
All I can do is smile
because I know you'll always be near.
