Petition for...

Petition for Intercession to the Ghost of General Washington

I pray thee, General, Saint of America, intercede for our country
still so tender yet so indebted to your glory, so debated
and divided in this Lowly Estate we find ourselves

I pray thee, General, pray for us, petition for our Common Good
to let Us thrive once more, to emerge strong from this turning
point, to give us the Bravery to destroy our enemy – ourselves

I pray thee, General, let us no more battle amongst ourselves in
Civil War, lest we rend asunder this fragile Alliance, this fragile
patriotism, lest we unravel his slender Common thread

Let us live again in this Union so keenly imperfect as though
perfection Reigned, let us know this Country we knew remains
let us die in the assurance we will remain in Greatness

  wow, write on!

where is the country we once fought to save...what has happened to us?

if only we could bring it back...if Washington saw us now...i wonder if he would even want to fight...he would probably go chop down some more cherry trees.
