You opened my purse, looking for clues
And found them - ticket stubs to matinees
Long poems written in waiting rooms
And you knew I found someone

The refrigerator chills bottles of wine
Beer and rum loosened my tongue
And my grip. When I laughed
You sensed I found someone new

You tracked me to the trails where I run
Then lost me. I disappeared among the trees
To meet a stranger. You checked my mail, my credit
My internet history. Chased the ghost of my new love

I found the rhythms of new songs to move to
Another sign for you that we were over
Music replaced the white noise of our silences
You knew that I was leaving for someone else

The only clue you missed was standing
Behind you in the bathroom mirror
    Looking over your shoulder waiting
    While you washed your hands

      you lost me, she said
    come again? he replied
    no need, never mind
said the friend at her side....

Just more thoughts on your thoughts about the end and the beginning of relational thoughts.

I really despise anyone going through my purse... I had someone who did that once, and it was the end of all things. I probably wouldn't have ever left him if he hadn't started doing that, but what he suggested and accused me of doing just opened the doorway to me actually doing it. If you're going to be accused, you might as well just do it.

This is marvelous. I love the way it was written, without bitter angst or anything other than factual information, and I loved the ending especially.

Yes indeed, a never ending issue for all of us I guess. Is it best to find something, then lose it or, lose something, then find it once more ?

Anyway, an insightful piece from you....well written.
