I feel everything.
I feel the sadness in the old mans eyes as he sits on the park bench every morning,
Sipping his coffee, lost in his world.
And I wonder how he came to be such a lost soul.
And the sorrow in his eye as he goes to the flower stand and buys one single red rose.
He walks to a cemetery to place it upon a grave.
Because life can be cruel at times
unfair, unjust and take away the one thing we value most in life; The one person we need to keep us going.
I feel the loneliness of the homeless woman who asks for spare change at the bus stop.
Trying to find at least one positive thing about her life
Counting the change she receives then looking at the prices of the menu at the bagel shop
Only to see a hurt facial expression when she doesn’t have enough.
And everyone else just going about their day, not realizing that one act of kindness can make a person smile and keep faith.
Because no job will take her applications
Since she can afford a decent change of clothes.
I can feel the longing in the stray dog as I pet his head.
Longing for a home he has never had.
scavenging the streets for food that was dropped.
And even through it all, the kicks and the yells the human kind has brought
His tail still manages to wag, when a stranger gives him a pat.
It is sad to see that we have the power to change all this.
We can make their lives more bearable.
By being a friend
By buying a meal instead of useless thing we don't really need.
By providing a home or at least help search for one.
We can all change this.
We carry about our day, half of us not noticing these things, only worried about the newest technology or the latest gossip.
While the rest of us watch without making an effort to change a thing.
And that is why we as humans, never get far.
