    do you remember when our lives were so carefree?
    no mention of war, except those of old.
    now we live in the shadow of endless war.
    never will we see this fighting come to an end.

    my friends are dead and gone,
    but i must keep fighting on.
    my home, my country, protect them;
    i don't think i'll be coming home.

    there's a rumor `round that the enemy has been found.
    the war's end drawing near, we'll finally come home.
    i don't think it's true; how can they be sure that it was the one
    that we've been looking for?
    they'll never end this war!

    i see the papers say,
    "give a shout! a loud hurray!
    the war is finally over,
    and our soldiers are coming home!"

    could it possibly be - we are free of this shadow?
    no longer afraid which friend will die next.
    let's dance in the streets! shout to all we meet;
    war's end drawing near, we'll finally make it home!

    the party starts right here; one huge celebration!
    war's end finally here,
    i'm coming home!

      Having the courage to write such an emotionally-charged song is half the battle, while completing it is the other half, and you, my friend, have done both. Though I'm no song-writer and probably never will be, I can see these lyrics translating well to music. Maybe I'm just a fan of opening with a question, but the fact that you DID open this with a question draws the reader (or future listener!) in right away. Keep up the decent writing/song writing!
