the smell of clean sheets, your skin, and cigar smoke.

that burn mark on the counter from where I let a hot pan sit too long.

the sound of our dog's feet on running to greet me at the door.

when you gently slip out of bed on Saturday mornings so that you can make breakfast.

finding your hair on my clothes even when you've been gone for months.

This is absolutely tantalizing in the bittersweet way that picks around at my feelings like playthings. I've tasted this. It's like waking up early at some fictional lake-house, fog on the water, with no one around for miles. Queen bed, hand-crafted wooden frame, and a screen door. Maybe peaceful but lonely to the core.
