    -------------------------------------------

    Follow near the skimming oars
That glide the straight flow of flowing river
By rowers who set their time to know it
    And heave above rejecting currents

Trainers push their orders through their yellow cones
“Oisín lift it! Don’t let it drag along!”
One hears it through the rising vapour of his breath
And tiring, bows his head and drops his oars
Like the strong bone of his heavy wing

I am made alone by the old couple ahead
Who pace slowly, linked through the years,
Protected still in their sickly gait.
But gently now I overtake and leave behind
This pair deep into their late reflections

On choosing a wood-wet bench by the riverbank
I tried nothing but to hear the Liffey trickle
And pedal on some plain meditations
And close my eyes but can’t stay shut
    And self-consciously they unclose

Across the water another man is sitting
Vacantly in the resting shade of his mind
With a gaze unmoving and I imagine myself
Sitting there now emptying promises to the wind
And the river and the sounds of people passing by
    Softly patting their leashed animals

And looking across the water I like to think that he may know
That I would sometime like to fall into the river
And be a wandering rose in the stream
And see through the wandering eye of the rose
And wash ashore a foreign flower
To wake alone and spread a budding meadow

Until finally one day being plucked and set and planted,
    By some caring human hand,
To live up and grow frail and once again to stretch
My green limbs out toward the daily sun
And be a fragrance on the spinning breath
Of this earth and this earths living tongue

Bravo! This reflection on life and how you would have yours is very nice. Takes me to a good place that I should be more.

It means a lot to them, as it does to you.
