    dotsOld Love, New Worlddots
    -------------------------------------------

It's been a long month in a warm place
a lot of sleep and a slow pace
a short leash and a low face
    a slanted smile
at love and this tired race
    to something else
and all the while I've been thinking
    about captains of ships sinking
    slaves with their chains clinking
and I'd rather be your prisoner
    you captivate me
    I could escape like you
lay bare with freedom and a new air
    but I'd rather stay listening
    for word from you
    captive to memories
    and pray for forgiveness
    just sing three notes
    and I'll wait forever
    suffering silence this night
    weathering this selfish storm
until dawn breaks on your smile
    through my window
and I awake to you coy
with the happiness of a new day
    washing away these tears
    this empty bed
    the wasted years
    because I know lovers quarrel
    I know this world
    I trust it gets better
