    dotsDeath in the Desertdots

A snowy shack lies in the snowy desert palms by night
Its dizzy catacombs are vestibules of busy light and bright
Flamingos tapdance its vermiculated shores no more:
An ancient steward flogs his decayed hat and greets you at the door

There is the smell of whisky laden in the air. A glum professor takes you there
Where you have not been followed but, for selfsame pleasure, antiquated mare
You’ll pay an extra shilling—forgotten currency from long-forgotten stalls
The haunts of ancient voices thundering through the halls

The cold dark air is chilling cobwebs and the walls are greasy moss
You reach for an ancient symbol and you pray to it. The cross
That had no fury has no life: there is no meaning to the fallen fight
The sins of angels have taken the light: nothing nomore is sacred, nothing right

And all the floors are muted, there’s a silent hush to footsteps creaking by
And as you pass the old veranda there’s an inward solitude: “Good-bye”
The angels say from their dark pit of death. Their voices creaking
Your feet in the depths of sinking sands, soul-chilled and easy speaking

You wake the cracking tongue the tunnel of bright white has laid
Bare all the visions in its misty light: last moments spade
The breath that follows chill-cold in the white:
No beam of consciousness but snowy desert night.
