Woke up this morning
turned on the TV -
Tried the computer -
Tried the phone -
No signal - no signal.
Nothing to connect me.
Nothing to show me the way.
Instead I had a feeling of unease,
as though the world had left me.
What could I do to connect again?
Could not phone.
Could not text.
Could not e-mail.
How to reach out?
I opened the door to peer out.
In the street were people.
Neighbors I had not often seen.
Were they also unconnected?
Were they also wondering what had happened?
Wondering when could they reconnect?
And I wondered should I go out too?
Or should I just wait to get connected again?
"The medium is the message" - Marshall McLuhan.
“turn on, tune in, drop out' -
'Turn on' meant go within to activate your neural and genetic equipment. Become sensitive to the many and various levels of consciousness and the specific triggers that engage them. 'Tune in' meant to interact harmoniously with the world around you – externalize, materialize, express your new internal perspectives. 'Drop out' suggested an elective, selective, graceful process of detachment from involuntary or unconscious commitments. 'Drop Out' meant self-reliance, a discovery of one’s singularity, a commitment to mobility, choice, and change. 'Unhappily my explanations of this sequence of personal development were often misinterpreted to mean ‘Get stoned and abandon all constructive activity.” - Timothy Leary
