    dotsThe Night After Christmasdots
    -------------------------------------------

    It's the  night after Christmas,
    and all through the house
    not a creature is stirring
    except for a mouse.
    Nibbling on cookie crumbs
    dropped to the floor
    and raiding the trash
    for a few nibbles more.
    But tonight of all nights
    the presence of mice
is the last thing that Kitty
    wants to think about twice.
    That carcass of turkey
    unwatched on the table
    has got her considering
    whether she's able
    to leap to that plate
for a great late night feast,
    when suddenly Doggy appears --
    that rude beast!
He leaps to a chair and then
    snatches the platter.
    The turkey goes flying
    then drops with a shatter.
    The cat makes a grab,
    dragging carcass and dressing.
    The dog is soon fighting
    for his holiday blessing.
    Tug of war now ensues
    through every last room,
    breaking vases and lamps
    and poinsettia blooms.
    When mom hears the ruckus
    she jumps out of bed
and screams for the children -
you shoulda heard what she said!
    The kids wake and rise
    to join in the fray,
    take up the battle cry,
    "Stay, Doggy! Stay!"
    But Doggy won't listen,
    just wants to be free
    to chase the poor kitty
    up our Christmas tree
    The tree isnt stable.
    The tree shakes and shudders,
    falls over the table
    as dad grimly mutters
    "Jesus Christ, what a mess
    Why can't we have peace?
    For God's sake it's Christmas --
    Let this foolishness cease!"
    And on That blessed night
    as church bells again peal
    Jesus Christ mutters back,
"Now you know how I feel."

Jesus always did have a problem reconciling animal facts. We're just entirely too rambunctiously boisterous for our own good.
