    Boys play with boys,
    girls play with girls
    is the rule
    on the second grade playground.

Sexual harassment starts early these days
so we are heading it off at the pass.
    Boys play with boys,
    girls play with girls

    is the rule.
    Entirely unenforceable-
one hundred fifty boys and girls
    Playing games at recess

    give or take.
    And two (only two!) teachers
    wearing orange safety vests,
as if to say, "I'm here!  Don't shoot!"

    Boys play with boys,
    girls play with girls.
Teacher, Brandon says he likes Kate
and you said there's no liking in second grade.

Teacher, Connor is chasing Claire at tag
and my mama said that when a boy chases a girl
    that means he likes her.
Didn't you say there's no liking in second grade?

Teacher, Aubrey is sharing her juicebox with Kevin
and they are getting the same germs on their lips.
    Isn't that just like kissing?
Is there kissing in second grade?

And what about the note that Giana
is passing to Brandon:  I love you.
I know you said there is no liking
But can we love each other?
    Teacher, I love you.

Oh, I never hard that rule imposed on me! I only ever played with boys at school. But I can see how silly of a rule it is. Children still can get away with chasing one another or kissing each other during milk break, passing love letters while teachers are completely unaware. Rules are imposed, but rules are broken in another times. I really like the ending line. It was very surprising to me.

I'm convinced it is boobs butts that drive the world. Size doesn't matter.

It's the boobs and the butts.

    "Do you have boobs?"

Yes, I do. Do you have a butt?

    "I most certainly do."

    Very well then!

Your poem was very well written.

I remember that rule. I got in more arguments with my male friends over the fact that I didn't believe girls had cooties. In fact I got suspended from kindergarten for kissing my girlfriend during milk break, was it my fault she didn't know she was my girlfriend? I don't remember a time in my life when I wasn't infatuated with women. I never went through any such stage.

      of course there's no liking
    no flirting no smiling
    no loving no cuddling
    no messages muddling

    the sweetness and caring
    Big Brother is staring
    down we all fall
    like hogs in our stalls

    Just thoughts on yours.

Cute. There's some strange messages being taught our children these days in the name of "protecting" them.
