would you just listen to tha stomp
my nurturing on a wing and a beat
strike up the band for all its worth
    buncha harmonizing damn fools
jivin' with Leadbelly and Moody Blues
givin' it up for Timothy Leary
oh yes, the guru is dead, yes, yes
takin' a sip of sweet lucy, dribblin'
down my chin, or was that sweet
    Libby, high sheriff's daughter, whoops
that'll droop it to a fair thee well
Charles and I had a hideout hid
told Libby she could join providin'
she gave us a peek at her whatsitlooklike
    Libby smiled, grinned, then hee-hawed
said that'll cost you a quarter apiece
I had to run home beg for a quarter
Charles had one he got to look first

One really knows a piece is at its best quality when the voice of the narrator has its own personality - and even its own face! The characters weren't even described, yet I found myself personifying them vividly in my own head. The voices were as clear as though I'd been watching a video, rather than reading a prose. The body and its scaling had me incapable of skipping or dismissing; I was glued to the page. Maybe it's because I've got such an infatuation for the country attitude, but its cultural attributes really stuck it solid.
Wish I'd read more of these around here. Thanks for sharing.
