    -------------------------------------------

The marriage of imagation and reality is made in heaven. On Earth imagination seeks to escape from reality, and reality is too hard to bear.

Yet we are meaning creating animals - we see patterns everywhere. Reality in fact engages our imagination. And the reality is that we prefer any meaning to no meaning. And inevitably some of our meanings are right and some are wrong.

We need to be strong to hold imagination and reality is creative tension.

But we respond to imagination and reality in almost the same way, so our temptation is to try to meet our unmet desires in the imagination. Like a beginning poet we want our love poetry to come true, but the old poet knows poetry does nothing.

Thank you Jazmine for reading "Imagination and Reality". I am sorry you couldn't swallow the last line, but don't you worry, I have discovered I was misinformed about old poets, and what a cruel joke to play upon me, heads will roll!

And to answer your question,"Is conscious thought the same as reality?". A conscious thought generally describes a pattern. That pattern may be true nor false. For instance, we may think the Sun goes round the Earth, which is false, or we might think the Earth goes round the Sun, which is true. So a conscious thought is not the same as reality, as a conscious thought can describe reality or a conscious thought can describe something imaginary - we takes our pick!

    See ya,
    Torie.

...and yet the old poet continues
to write his chants of frustration
unless he wisely ceases to speak
as if he were the nation...

    Just some thoughts on yours.

But the old poet knows poetry does nothing

In context to the poem this could make sense, still I wonder if it is completely true. I swallowed the whole piece before that line and it all felt good going down. You made some interesting points about both imagination and reality. I also enjoyed the comparison to marriage as the relational nature of marriage was compared to heaven. The relational nature of heaven defined by imagination and reality, that's good stuff. Also conscious thought or is that the same as reality?
