How funny, though I’ve never had you, and I was never yours,
that if you were to be gone, irreversibly, in your place
would be a gaping hole, smoking and raw,
    as if from a gunshot.
--- Your hand roams over my back, and I will
give you a friendly nudge, --- a zealous accountant,
I’ll count these to the decimal.
My solar plexus runs amok again,
I am not quite sure why, or why
    I am imagining
    .

you know, I imagined him before he finally found me and/or I found him. of this I am sure. I swear I talked, felt, listened and touched him before we ever met. or met again. seems I waited lifetimes.

anyway, I enjoyed this. for the words, thoughts, reminders and a feeling of understanding.

    thanks for sharing.

      When ordinary lovers
    Don't feel what you feel
And real-life situations lose their thrill
    Imagination's unreal
    Imaginary lover, imaginary lover
    You're mine anytime

    "Imaginary Lover"
    Atlanta Rhythm Section

Although your post is much more nuanced than this pop tune, it did remind me of this song from the 70s.
