    -------------------------------------------

When we view it from afar,
we see remnants of glass, iron and tar,
    parts of the same machine,
    tossed into the pyre.

Pieces of people we view as slightly less,
    slightly feeble; slightly beneath us,
    we claim no equal.
Incinerating the past as a normative response,
    to the obstreperous sirens call,
    of progressive decay,
    into our crucible, us all.

The smoldering copper of a flameless torch,
    illuminated transgressions against that,
    one true God,
that of man, holds nothing but the burden,
    to haunt the afraid mind,
    of a trenchant truth.
    In this ocean lurking,
    cannibalizing and consuming,

    Freedom is the greatest evil.

Conflagrating beneath the feet of liberty,
the land razed and with it, reality
    feasting on the marrow,
    of philosophical skeletons,
that hold no greater answer than death.
Putrefaction of a bond that never clasped,
    the hands of limitation,
    the aspiration of reason,
    or that of dream’s ambition.
    Machinations of a self-serving existence,
    designed to carry on,
    in replicating a flawed design,
    of a uniqueness,
    to which we’re all blind.
