I miss the silence in the dew.

The renewal of the green each morning.

Like after a good long summer rain.
Soaking the leaves and allowing them
to shower and rejuvenate. Neon green.

Such vibrant life waking up and settling into the day.

And the birdie says, " tweet tweet."

    Good morning I'm hungry.

    But does the worm awake
    and shake his fists while
    Screaming " Hey, Watch out
    for those birds!"

    Or what about the mouse
    who already ate the cheese
    and is back again
    Because he wants more.

Or who's to say the snake isn't
    Sleeping within the insulation
    And scoping out the rats;
their nest In the same attic.

Holes in the roof from the squirrels
    Sharpening their teeth and nails
    So they can scurry away
    As fast as they came.

    But leaving behind a
    home for the others
    To mingle and claim
    that part is their homeland.
