dotsShe's Not my Lady, But I Love Herdots
    -------------------------------------------

She’s not my lady, but I love her
And I will meet her at the fjords when the neon sea sings
There she’ll lie under me as a suckling cub
And find shelter from the storm beneath my heavy body
And I will hold the iridescent algae like the stars and lay them at her feet
Together we’ll whisper poetry in their ears
And scatter them like dandelion spears among the sky
Like children whooshing wishes in the summer night

She’s not my lady, but I love her
And I will hold her tiny breasts in my hands
    Like clusters of mamones
I will slowly peel back the green skin and savor
The fruit between my teeth until they’re ripe as dawn
I’ll hold them with my lips as the husbandman and
Roll them around my mouth like bald suns
And they shall rise up to meet my loves
Like the nightingale’s belly rises to sing psalms in the night

She’s not my lady, but I love her
And I will pull her close and read her eyes like scrolls
The words will tangle in my beard like feathers
And guide me to my spice-box of rhymes
Here I will unravel my bones and discover myself in time and meter
My ode shall fall softly into the lines of her lips
Like lush purple seeps into the terroir of the vintner’s hands
It’s in the vast Venezuelan nights that I yearn to taste her most
    BUT NO---

She’s not my lady, and I love her…
