    -------------------------------------------

At first I thought you were an artichoke- fortified tightly in your armor of green

Closed from the sun, a parcel of filaments scaled with lines of lime-hued bucklers
That spiraled your tower like a Roman legion in testudo formation-

In you I saw a hidden galaxy waiting to pop like purple poppies in spring, a tenderness
Known only to the disenchanted, the disillusioned, the disserted; but
You carry a secret, my love- a labyrinth of twizzled thistles to be unraveled

Then I thought you a coconut- a hard-shell shielding the plush white pulp of summer

You who fell, harlequin green at my feet like Neptune- enclosed by a husk that housed
The brown boulder, unassailable as space itself and holding the milk of Eve-

I nurtured you in the umbrae of my spirit like the cosmos nourishes the stars
You were my happiness, the caroling sparrow in my chest; my iridescence- but
You grew silent- as silent as a broken wing in the wind

But you are neither the armored artichoke nor the encased coconut; yea

You are the pinecone- full of truth lying behind the breastplates of God

You’re austere as the Prophet Joseph during Pharaoh’s famine- a storehouse that saves
Generations and generations, the Egyptian’s saw you as the third eye

The geometric center of the mind, that from which epiphanies
Shoot up as fiery carnations; the throne of the soul which fattens until it bursts
In arrows that pierce the soil and mounts up into forests like bluebirds

It’s not that you carry the stars in the womb as the armored artichoke, nor that you
Hold the essence of Eve in you like the coconut- but rather that you

Are exactly as you should be, the magnificent pinecone that expands to flower
The earth with the seeds of God

Is this a reference to the pineal gland and all of the symbolism surrounding? If so that is cool. I liked the mention of seed, I took away a higher meaning there. I've heard a lot of these references before, but you have a unique voice and the language used renders this piece a fresh revelation. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the insight into this piece.
