I don't love you like a love song, baby.

    -------------------------------------------

You’re a love letter in my back pocket
A jacket sitting across my front seat
    Memories that don’t hurt anymore
A smile long heartfelt and indiscrete.

    Frayed edges and forgotten phrases
A friend since before I knew I needed one
Maybe once it was something like love
Faded into a story not to be outdone

Dissection of every minute in your embrace
Leaves me in the dark wondering when did I go
We never did fight fair, always smiling faces
One hand behind our back waiting for the other to follow.

Two hands grasped the knife together
Romance follows us through the exit door
Pressed between us knowledge that all we ever wanted
Is the love inside our heads to be something more

But that kind of love never brought me flowers
Only tawdry daydreams and the symphony of my delusion
Winds whip moods back forth across the schoolyard
Just an overdose of our brilliant fusion

We composed the ballad of the lunatics
And here I am wishing for the next verse
You were more than a friend, less than a lover
And there’s nothing else so perverse

the question is did we ever want flowers?
or do we only expect flowers because we are told we should want them.

Be kind, take a few minutes to review the hard work of others <3
It means a lot to them, as it does to you.
