Have you ever heard the word saying: “The Jack of all trades is master of none!”? Well, you probably did. But do you know what its meaning is? Or who is “The Jack of all Trades”?
The Jack of all trades (JOT) is a multi-talented or multi-profession person, meaning that he is a person who has many talents or can do many professions.
Some people may think that it is a good thing -being a (JOT) - and others may say that anyone can be a (JOT) if he wishes. But it’s not that simple, as being a (JOT) isn’t something that can be gained or learned rather it’s more like a gift that some are born with it.
But what about the other half of the sentence saying: “Master of none”?
It means that the (JOT) can’t be a master of a certain trade or profession of which he can do. As an example: you may find a person - (JOT) - who can draw beautiful drawings, knows a lot of things about electronics and possesses some knowledge of psychology, but he can’t draw as beautiful as the talented artist, know about electronics better than the electronics engineer or understand the human behavior better than the psychiatrist!
The bottom line is: The (JOT) may be better than the group as a whole, but every individual in the group is better than him in a certain profession.
And remember that: “Not every gift is a bliss…”
