Uhhh.... i saw myself in a dream. I was falling at high velocity, spinning down. But i wasn't scared. My face was calm and my eyes were closed. It was as if i was ready.

If I knew Iíd die today
I wouldíve kissed my mother good-bye
Listen to what my family had to say
    And never question why

It had to be like this, I know
Iíd wish for time to stand still
To tell all my close ones I love them so
    Instead I rolled downhill

Down to the valley of doom
    As my body with regret
And burn it will as darkness consumes
Nothing left for me, destiny set

    To be the guinea pig
    In this experiment called life
Iíd puff out my chest and pretend to be big
Only to let it all end with a knife*

Maybe it was fate for me to go like this
To be the example that others look at
    Hopefully my message wonít miss
The words written forth will have some impact

Cherish life because the gift is rare
But donít grasp onto it too tight
Consider the ones of which you care
And protect them with all your might

Yet people continue to ignore death
Brushing it all off, my loss was in vain
No one takes to heart of my last breath
As I spiral down the shadows in pain

Hey I liked this poem! Although it is written in a slightly depressing way (it is after all a poem about death.), I think what made this poem really good was that you had that really important message that you wanted to send out to the readers, which was to cherish life:

Cherish life because the gift is rare
But donít grasp onto it too tight
Consider the ones of which you care
And protect them with all your might

This stanza portrayed that directly (it's my favourite stanza :)). Unlike many other poems about dying/death, this one was, in my opinion, special because it didn't just tell about how dying was like, why did the persona die. It told us that death cannot be ignored. There is a vital lesson to learn from death, yet, as clear as the lesson may be, some people still tend to not see it and dismiss death as only something that "will eventually happen".

    Well written!

A very simple yet powerful poem. Your words are words of influence that can change other people's lives. It is through this poem that people will see the real value of life. I agree that some people avoid to talk about death because they are afraid to die, and some talk too much of death because they are afraid to live. Such an ironic world we have, but despite all that we still struggle to live what everybody calls "life". Great work.

      Very nice. I liked your thoughts on death-not just fearing them, but really knowing them and valuing life. Too many people take life for granted and live carelessly. While others, choose to live in fear of dying and miss out on so much. A good read:}
