A day in the life of me...Mother of 2 little girls, (toddlers) and an aspiring poet...who just might never be anything except frazzled! Ah, well...

    dotsi can't write poetrydots
    -------------------------------------------

I took a pen and paper
to write this down, you see.
As i sat down, my children came
    And sat upon my knee.

I tried to make them leave me,
And give me time to think.
But all too soon they had returned,
    Begging for a drink.

The drink, I gave them quickly.
I sat back down to write.
    Fifteen seconds later,
    The girls began to fight.

I jumped up from my writing
to find out what was wrong.
    One had told the other,
"No, you can't sing that song!"

    The quarrel finally settled,
And they sat to watch t.v.
It seemed that i could write at last,
    At twenty-two past three.

Alas, the phone began to ring!
    I answered casually.
    It was only a recording
    from a credit company!

Now i have to be quite honest.
This day has got the best of me.
    My conclusion for the moment
is that i can't write poetry!

wow, emily dickinson had it good...she lived in her father's house...and just took care of household duties...helped her invalid mother...and in the crevasses...she wrote...
    but she had quiet...you don't...

yet i like this poem..it has a touch of wistfulness, but a "i wouldn't give up this life with my kids, even for a thousand poems"

    nice write

      Very cute poem.
With you it was being interupted by your girls, while trying to write poetry.
When my boys were young I had a similar problem.
Everytime I got on the phone { with their Grandma } they wanted something, lunch or money for the movies, going to the mall. I wouuld tell them, as soon as I get off the phone.
Their Grandma lived a few blocks away but would call me often. Boy did she love to talk !
    I miss those days. lol

Haha! I don't really get this problem due to the fact that I'm usually horribly bored while writing, but I think you've done the interruptions really well though.
I enjoyed it too much to find any faults (probably cos I'm half asleep) and anyway I do hope you get to write without piece.
    Cheers

hmm...are we allowed to reply to other people's comments, or is that going to get me kicked off...cause I got a few things to say about secret moon's comment...oh well.
I dunno...I have a hard time seeing this as writer's block. It turned out far too well. The rhyme and rhythm worked very well (something that bugs me a LOT when it's not right!). Good job! Keep up the good work on the poetry you can't write!

hmmm...lol..heehee. This poem is very ironic, because you are talking like you can't think of anything to write, and yet you are coming up with some very cool/funny/clever poetry! I also loved the simplistic feel...kinda like something worth illustrating and turning into a funy coffee table book, ya know! It was fun... It made me laugh inside! :) Good Work, ma sista!
    tata 4 now!

Ok I loved that. haha. Nice day sounds like. I really like that. Great flow. and I know it says that is a bad comment but it really is true everything came together perfectly if we were grading these you would get an A. Keep up the great work and I look forward to reading more in the future. Keep it up.

      Anybody can write poetry.
I think one thing that people often think is that their poetry has to be in the traditional, rhyming, four-line stanza format. A lot of the times when I have been absolutely unable to write, I just let the ideas flow freely, just the stupidest stuff in the weirdest formats. Sometimes doeing stuff like that can really help your poems, and open you up to an entirely different world of writing.
Just an idea. Sorry about your writer's block. . . it sucks.

I like this piece because your trying to do something but it is like everything is against you. Maybe not the same circumstances for me but the same problem. It's funny how simple things make good poetry.

Think Feedback more than Compliments :: [ Guidelines ]

    1. Be honest.
    2. Try not to give only compliments.
    3. How did it make you feel?
    4. Why did it make you feel that way?
    5. Which parts?
    6. What distracted from the piece?
    7. What was unclear?
    8. What does it remind you of?
    9. How could it be improved?
    10. What would you have done differently?
    11. What was your interpretation of it?
    12. Does it feel original?

Be kind, take a few minutes to review the hard work of others <3
It means a lot to them, as it does to you.
