    -------------------------------------------

He said, "I'll always be there for you."
She looked at the floor, her eyes full of tears,
All she could manage was a simple, "Thank you."
In that one moment, he melted away all of her fears.

This is my story, of regret and despair
Where a young girl, only in her teens
Was forced to live in a world, where nothing was fair
And all of her family, laughed at her dreams

She held her head high, nose in the air
She wouldn't let others, get in her way
Her ability to keep going, was more than rare
In fact it was so rare, everybody had something to say

She was the odd ball, never had any friends
But she didn't care, that's what she preferred
Never made eye contact, her reputation she'd defend
She never gave in, never said a word

One miraculous day, a boy looked at her
He looked at her, like nobody ever had before
He spoke to her, her world became a blur
She wasn't sure what to do, so his comment she ignored

But he wasn't the type, to give in so easy
He tried again, once more he was denied
The next time he spoke, her stomach suddenly became queasy
She looked up at him, right then she would decide

This boy was different, nothing like the rest
For the first time in forever, her face lit up
She smiled up at him, she did her best
Not to offend, tried not to corrupt

These two people, surpisingly worked out
Over the years, they remained friends
Then something happened, they took a different route
Promised to keep in touch, said their friendship wouldn't end

Two years went by, never heard a peep
She assumed he'd moved on, she never thought twice
She went on with her life, thought him a creep
Swore never to love, her heart was ice

Throughout the years, she was beatin and abused
Hated all men, for what they have done
Couldn't think straight, she felt alone and confused
Once she thought, "I'll end it with a gun."

Luckily that boy, chose then to return
He appeared suddenly, his arms wide open
She wasn't sure, didn't want to get burned
She looked up, and knew right then

He still loved her, that had never changed
They had so much, never had to complain
They talked all night, their events they exchanged
After all was said, she suddenly felt ashamed

None of it mattered, he still felt the same
He reassured his feelings, would never go away
She felt a little better, but still full of shame
Her eyes filled with tears, had nothing left to say

He said, "I'll always be there for you."
She looked at the floor, her eyes full of tears,
All she could manage was a simple, "Thank you."
In that one moment, he melted away all of her fears.

I am simply amazed that I am the first to comment on this work, being that I find it very much coming from the heart and wrote so well. You could not have picked better words, but then again..words from the heart are always best in my view..being the "love" and "passion" poetry writer I am. This story reminds me so much of finding "The One", the one that will step though the walls, walk over the flames and indure with understanding to be there for you. I have found mine, took me long enough..lol. This is enjoyable to read, I take with me much meaning from it, thank you for writing it.
Sometimes all it takes is just that, A Light in the Darkness, hold fast to what has been placed together, nothing happens in this life that is random.

this is really beautiful and it seems so spoken from the heart. the emotions just flow so wonderfully. it reminds me of my boyfriend and for those who have stepped up during my toughest times and fought through my anger to really get to me. you really brought this piece to life with your descriptions. great job. happy holidays. take care.

thank you... I might be wrong in assuming that this is about me but I get the feeling it is. I just wish it were written earlier. I will always be here I love you dearly. but what I am in now I can't walk away from. call me some times sooner or later you will find me at home I know we're both busy in our own affairs. but still I will try to make time for a friendship as old as ours.
