    Description:
Labels just bother me. People are not cans of soup. The other day I wore a new shirt, and just because it was black... suddenly people tell me I look punk. Then the next day, I am wearing emo shoes. If I know the answer to a question in class, I am a nerd. Everyone goes though these labels.. you just need to know who you are.

    dotsNot A Fed Ex Packagedots
    -------------------------------------------

I am not a Fed Ex package,
You cannot put me in a box,
    And slap a label on.

You can’t call me punk or goth,
And I’m not emo that’s for sure,
I am not a nerd or geek,
    Though sometimes I overachieve.

    I have some friends,
But I am neither popular nor preppy,
I am all of these things,
    And none of them
    I truly am… just me.

I understand this poem. When you are in your teenage years, you are trying to suss the world out, and try to put things into boxes. Makes it easier for you to try and make sense of this crazy world.

When you get into your twenties though, you realise it's impossible to understand anything about this mental world we live in, and you just start to accept things for what they are, people included, and start to make up your own minds about things. As you age you learn to trust your judgment more, rather than relying on the labels other people ascribe to things.

I liked this poem, short sweet and with a relevant message.

One more thing, I love the picture you use. It's from the movie The Princess Bride, a fairy story from the 80's. I remember it because part of it was filmed in my home country, New Zealand and it's one of my favourite old films. Very cheesy film, but still sweet.

Thanks for sharing this poem with me!

i really like this poem its short sweet and to the point. i really do hate labels. just because i listen to alternative music, and skateboard and my favorite pair of shoes are my black converse's i get 'punk' branded on my forehead. and not just by other teens, adults too. my friends and i skateboard by this store. and the looks some of these old people give us are just horrible. "god damn skaters"
this was good, it got the point about how labels are dumb across. keep writing.

YES! LABELS ARE LIKE THE WORST THINGS EVER! THEY SHOULD BE SHOT!
Okay, that was weird. But yeah, I know exactly where you are coming from. . . people try and put labels on you. . . nerd, punk, overacheiver (I get that one all the time for the curse of good grades that hangs perpetually over my head). . . they're all fake. I mean some people go for the labels and enjoy whichever class they are considered, but me. . . I just like to be considered me, and nothing more. Good write, and good expression of yourself.

What a beautiful piece. I' felt the same way when I started the leg warmers on your arms craze. Suddenly I was Avril Lavigne....I just did it so I wouldnt cough into my hand and put the cold back in my eye like I do every winter....

I'm glad you can see past everything and find yourself in the craze of clothing and shoes.

I like the addition Wynne wrote up, but it isnt your style for this piece, I think it would be wonderful iof your took her ideas and concepts for the addition and revised this a bit, its short and to the point but additional information cant harm it.

Great ending, and I loved your title. Nice work.

Sweets this is gorgeous! Its definitive and says so much in such a simplistic vibe. May I add this also?

    Please, Oh Please society,
take these worthless lables off of me.
They have no place in world
They cannot begin to understand and
define the direction of my swirl.

    I am me and that is all I can be;
backstroking in the sea of individuality and
    sun bathing in creativity.
    I am me.
    Delicious and beautiful,
    Insightful and dutiful.
    I defy catagorization,
because I am simply and purely me!

I totally respect and admire this piece as I have felt "labeled" too. I streaked my hair red, blonde, and black with my brown hair this summer and people were calling me punk. Just because I like rock and have a wild hair color does in no way label me punk. I get mostly A's and B's and people call me a prep. It's weird how people percieve each other. I've come to overlook these petty people who label people. Hopefully you will too. :) Good write.
    Merry Christmas!

This piece is the very thing the world is now. I guess people feel more comfy if they fit a certain requirement or have a place in a group somewhere. I know how it is. But you did a wonderful job showing us where you stand, great writing!

i learned at a very young age that all the high school crap one has to deal with is just that crap...it has no bearing what-so-ever on who we become or real life. It's so amusing now to see what the lives of my peers turned into, & they were supposed to be the *popular* ones. Staying independent and open-minded is one of the greatest feats one can accomplish..keep this in mind..*everything happens for a reason*,, and high school is B.S.

A very intersting perception, The label system is a parrdox and you have to learn to laugh at it.
Another great example of the label system failing is sexuailty i.e gay, straight its just not that simple people are so much more than that.

Would i be wrong to think there is an underlying issue of the difficulty involved in finding out who u are.

p.s I love the title it grabs you.

I like it. An assertion of who you are, very nicely done.
    The best lines were :

I am all of these things,
    And none of them
    I truly am… just me.

We're all a bit of everything,a mixture, and we really can't label people. It's not our duty to judge others! Good write. :)

this made me giggle because i used to deliver for FedEx. now i just shudder when i see a FedEx package or a FedEx truck!

i, too, hate when people try to put me in a box. good for you for just being yourself. wear what you want because you want to, not because it's "the thing" or whatever. just be you! write on!

I think highschool is the one place where we are most labelled. Its a part of it..

I myself am labelled as many things.. most due to people's lack of knowledge towards some of the things I do blah blah blah what the hell am I babbling about.

The poem itself, speaking of the structure, seems to be just fine. Very natural, which is important.

Important theme you picked up here.. I am sure we ALL can relate to this in some way or another. Good job..

as for me, I label you as being perfect. Excuse me for living hahaha

      brilliant brilliant brilliant!
    power to you! really!
when i was at high school i didnt have all the 'labelled' clothes and my mother (who was trying to do her best on her own) would try to buy me clothes that looked exactly like the labelled clothes (not realising that it was the label not the style that was the issue...) and apparently having wannabe label clothes is worse than not having them at all so i went the whole other way... i started going op shopping and wearing grandad pants and retro clothes and just going crazy creating myself my own look (i was wearing a tie and a tea cozy for a hat and the whole sock on the arm thing long before Avril was! LOL) and you know... i got SO much respect for that and it made me realise that theres a whole lotta other ppl who wanna be able to do that... to be who they are regardless of who/what everyone else thinks they are and should be but arent strong enough to be that...
when i read this write of yours it resounded within me... i am in total agreeance.
the world wants to label you... put you in a box... its their way of controlling everyone and eevrything... creating order in this present chaos and well... one day we will have so many labels no one will remember our names...
dont get me wrong though... if someone wishes to identify themselves by one of these labels... if one of them fits perfectly and they are proud ot wear go them i say but yeah...
i could go on and on all day but i shall just stop and say awesome write!
