"What grows on your family tree?"
a friend of mine- my real family asked me
Eyes glaring down, I knew not what to say
words lacked, thoughts raced
mouth open- no words fell out
"Don't go through if it hurts too much."
my reason for breathing consoled
hand raised to cover their words,
a current of tears filled inside, but the dam
of the past built a block over any expression
- Over what made me human
"The tree bears nothing good to be reaped.
the tree deceives you with temptation
slowly callouses and makes the inside barren.
The roots are too strong to be pulled up
to stop all this mess.
It feeds off of pain so it can't ever end."
was spoken with a heart of lament
"Love is a meaningless word, it holds no value.
Branches of hate, branches of greed
produce all they can. They kill you slowly."
fell out choked.
"Don't come too close to its' sironous look,
It only bears bitter fruit.
Darkness, only darkness.
There is no thing of beauty in this tree.
The fruit is poison, stay far away.
I am of the tree- stay nowhere near.
I never want you to see what I have."
my voice quivered out.
Expecting my friend- the only thing I love
to leave me like all others, my eyes went vacant
But then, a loving touch embraced me
the only one I've ever known took me in
"You. You are wrong. The tree beared you.
You came out of the dust and darkness and are light"
At that second I knew.
I did have a family- a reason.
