My atonement was sent here
in a plastic encased blast of chards,
sent from a faceless enemy...
it smacked me cast backwards,
and my light
at the end
of the tunnel
was nuclear chaos.
It rained down ash
(from where we came and where we now return to)
it burns acidic
and poisonous like
a bud from a cyanide rose,
that crept past the door stealthfully
and stinging my flesh in these forms,
thorns of retribution rip me in two for nothing,
in this battle land fit for no one but the chiefest of sinners.
Why, I, a man of 23 years old
lay dying here in this torn and chewed soil?
the question strips reason from my lips,
pressed pale against this foreign blood soaked land,
as i lay dying for a country i still love.
Forever in this sacrifice i sink beneath the earth,
breathing in the toxic perfume of mom's best nuclear bomb.
