Sacrifice
They say that when a baby smiles,
The angels are talking to him,
Some say its a bodily function,
But he wouldnt know to laugh at that,
So lets say the angels do talk to them,
Could an angel have warned Daniel,
That Death would intrude your home soon?
I saw you there in the hospital,
Echoing in my head a thousand times,
There is no God, There is no God,
And then I saw you bang your head on the wall,
You dropped to your knees there in the hall,
Hoping the wounds on your head,
Would convince Death to take you instead,
What led up to this frightful night,
That would take another of our sons away?
There is an unexplained reason,
Why he got so sick the day before,
Yet his doctor turned you away at the door,
And why on this night, did he sleep by your side,
Did you not trust the angels to hold him as he cried?
Maybe he knew of something bigger planned,
A war he'd been called to fight,
He lay there by your side like a million times before,
As you lay sleeping, a breeze through the window,
And Death at your door, awakening him,
Raising his body, raising his only weapon,
Up onto your chest, as he fought off Death,
A fight that only he could fight,
With an army of angels by his side,
Be proud Mike, for you will never know,
He protected you from Death's crushing blow
In loving memory of Daniel Jacob Morgan
