Last night, I fell asleep to the sound
Of your words
Coming from another's mouth.
I dreamed of a land brilliant in color,
Auspicious in people, who were
Comely in looks.
A beautiful city lacking
Only one thing:
Love.
Full of vanity, full of lust,
Full of hate and lies.
Yet in that prosperous city,
Where the wages were high
And the work was pleasing,
The people knew naught about love.
So I traveled far and met them
To tell them about you.
I spoke for hours,
I stayed for weeks,
I remained for endless months
So they could understand
The feelings that dwell within
While dreaming, wishing,
Hoping for you.
Finally, late one night,
On the verge of losing hope,
One who heard my stories
Wept.
Wept for us.
Wept for love,
Until he could weep no more.
And in that moment,
My goal was complete.
I taught them love
Through you.
Last night I fell asleep
To the sound of your words
Coming from another's mouth.
It was a beautiful way
To remember you.
And when I awoke,
You were there, too. |
