Any crazed ignoramus can garner attention by setting himself on fire in protest, jumping off a cliff in sacrifice, starving himself to death for principle, or committing simultaneous homicide and suicide through a violent means in the name of God. In fact, many have done so. Call them what you will, but do not label them martyrs. There is an entirely different process in becoming a martyr.

No one can embrace martyrdom by his own devices. In fact, a martyr is born purely on willing acceptance of death at the hands of an oppressor. Therefor, no crazed ignoramus can become a martyr. In choosing life, one automatically opts out of martyrdom. In accepting death, the willing submission to summary execution requires unwavering persistence and reverence. For such a selfless sacrifice testifies to the power of faith few are willing to acknowledge and fewer to test in full measure.

This was very true and that is probably the reason it got viewed a lot but not commented on, as your description says, the truth is hard to fathom and examine. I do not think that in my lifetime I will ever meet or see a true martyr...but I have faith that I might. Nice thought provoking piece. Have a good one and keep smilin'

Ok this is too weird I have been working on something that has to do with being a martyr in you life, and here you are with one world class example in the description of what my heart has been telling me to create.
    Well as they say...great minds.
I could not agree with your point more...it is very true all the ridiculous people named something that does not suit them in the least.
I really enjoyed this, but every time I get a chance to see into the way you think we seem to be on the same page.
    Great
