Description: This is a poem about a priest named Father Kolbe who gave his life for another during the holocaust. I feel like in some ways society has become selfish and this poem is to remind people that great acts of kindess and love can still exist in such a violent world. I plan to revise this piece because i am not fully satisfied with it. I feel it is not descriptive enough. I am currently revising this piece, so in time i'll post the new version.
the last stanza really struck me. this is a well-done portrait of a man who lived his faith. i've read a lot of negative stories about the holocaust (including 'the shawl' by cynthia ozick), and it's quite refreshing to read a positive piece.
a fine poem here, commemorating a man who seems something of an embarressment to the modern world that reveres greed and self before everything else. It cannot explain a Maximillian Kolbe who was brave and selfless....again, fine poem.... bravo... bravo.. bravo....
What can I say brother another great poem. I love the way that you write about stories It is great I have tried to write narritives and I can't even get a good idea, anyway this a great poem and I hope I can develop to be such a writer as yourself.
much LOVE James
P.S. Hey just thought of something I know that you love music and that you like writings about stories well check out a band called The Decemberist
i admire your writing techinque.. completely.. i love reading what you write. i can not take something that is happening around me, in the world, per se' and write a poem about it.. well one that is any good anyways.. you make the story, the feel- you.. if that makes sense.. :) very good.. and thanks for the story before the peom.. it does help.. but honestly i read the poem before i knew the story and it still grabbed me.. and held... :)
i liked that. i enjoyed your poem. if you're not content with its descriptiveness, go ahead & edit it, because its possible it might not have as much meaning to people without your background information.
on the other hand, sometimes its fun to leave your reader wondering what the hell you're writing about. it seems i personally make a habit of doing so. haha.
This poem was very well-written and it touched me. It made me think of the times that my mother had gone through hell just to save me from being yelled at by my father and it made me think of all the things that our soldiers in Iraq give up in order to keep this country safe. This is a TRULY inspiring poem. Keep writing!
First off thank you very much for your comments on my poetry i appreciate it your style is very good i did not know right away it was dealing with the holocaust by reading your poetry i get new ideas for a poem thanks again
WOW. very moving. i am greatly interested in the holucast and this is a very touching piece. just imagining a man giving up his life to save another is such a great thing. very nice poem. all though maybe it could of been a bit more describtive but tahst about it. Ashley
I really was touched by this and I think that's an admirable thing to do - help remind people of what life really means and I think you're right, a lot of people are very selfish nowdays as they've really been for a long time. Great job! Love,Peace,Joy! epiphany ; )
ok i have to keep this simple because if not i would be biased, (sorry) this was a well written poem and you supported your theme well, although my agreement is not there, but that has no matter. would like to see more of your poems and see more like this.
