She sat by the lake under the old oak tree as she had so many times before. Like she hadn't done in so long. It was all the same, the tree, the lake, the grass, but something was different. She knew, she wasn't the only one, it was like her, the same on the outside, but always changing on the inside. And it all started with that one day, or maybe it started before that day.
Lieing on the freshly cut grass and staring into the cloud filled sky she listened to the water of her lake. It made her think. Why is she so different? She thought of her parents divorce and how it had torn her apart to not be able to see her father for a whole month. In her mind she pictured the birth of her best friends baby and how the father had denied having anything to do with their baby. The story of her life played out right before her eyes and she saw her eating disorder come and go and all the boys she'd thought were the ones for her. None of it had anything to do with her change, not one thing.
She slowly rolled herself over to look into her lake. Now on her stomach, she looked at her reflection and smiled. That's when she realized what was different about her. She loved herself more then she hated the hand she was dealt. She then knew the exact day, hour, minute and even the very second when her life had changed for the better. The moment she said "I love me" was the moment when she changed forever. Now she knew no divorce, no boys, no friends, no babies, no nothing no matter what could affect her, unless she allowed it.
Unlike her lake she decides when ripples are created in her life. |
