This is new to me: Free internet TV.

If you have a recent version of Winamp, and you go to the "media library" window, under 'Online Media' it lists either "Shoutcast TV" or "Internet TV" and there's hundreds of channels to surf.

I knew about shoutcast.com but not all this video. This seems like a pretty cool thing that people should be encouraged to participate in, hence this post which is [perhaps distastefully] a plug, in essence.

Maybe there are other ways of getting free, streamed internet video like MSNbc or something related to real.com, but this one seems totally free i
no ads necessary, no ad-ware, and no exotic or expensive/shareware video codecs or special players are required.

Like shoutcast (which lists only simple, free, mp3-formatted streams playable by any sound or media player program) this service does not even require that you use the Winamp client program, but is playable even by Windows MediaPlayer if the streams are accessed via the winamp.com website instead of the winamp player.

I'd encourage anyone with internet bandwidth like DSL, or Cablemodem or faster, to investigate. I like rantTV, demoscene, and comedy channels myself.

One more thing, viewing the video MAY require a "DivX Codec", www.divx.com blue thing DivX Play Bundle - Free Download. Whether or not you install the player in addition to the codec, when it promts for that, is mostly irrelevant.

You have to pay for many of the video streams that real.com offers ... like BigBrother ... NFL pass ... blah, blah, blah.

I don't think this is distasteful at all ... it's not like you tricked the reader into thinking this was a poem or a story. You labeled it correctly. I think some people would find this type of info helpful ... I like comedy as well ... and I don't have cable ... so the only thing I can hear is on the internet.

Anyway ... thanks for the info. :-)
