I was asked awhile ago to write a poem overcoming pain and misery...while this isn't exactly overcoming it, it's the first step to it.

Make the font bigger!! Double Spacing Back to recent posts.

    They're bound so tight,
it's getting so hard to breathe.
    Holding me down,
    never experiencing or seeing life
    for what it really is.
    Chains so thick and tight,
there's no way to break through-
making my life such a hell,
almost impossible to make it to tomorrow.
    They've done nothing other than
    teach me to hold back.
Embracing me in their steel arms,
never will they let me go,
until I find the key to the lock
    holding these chains together.
No amount of love or hate
    can ever break these chains,
    only inner strength
    will make them give way.

you did such a great job of expressing these feelings.
that is just what they feel like.
there is no escaping them it seems.

the poem held the feelings, telling us how it felt, what it was like, then at the end it did give off a little bit of a hope.
that maybe there was a way to break them.

    'Chains so thick and tight,
there's no way to break through-
making my life such a hell,
almost impossible to make it to tomorrow.'

these feeings are so real, i think almost everyone can relate to them.
the last line, ringing so true to me, what is tomorrow? nothing but another yesterday.

'No amount of love or hate
    can ever break these chains,
    only inner strength
    will make them give way.'

    the end.
    very well done.
no amount of love or hate can ever break these chains.
    how true.
nothing can break them, they are binding you forever.
    then maybe there is something.
    inner strength.
the hope that gets you through.

you did a wonderful job on this! I enjoyed it very much.

Candi, a very tense write and yet an element of hope to it especially with the lines "until I find the key to the lock" and "only inner strength will make them give way." you have that power to free yourself, you just have to do it and live your life. you deserve happiness not chains, bittersweet notions, a broken heart, tears, or regret. I feel awfully sad reading this knowing you feel these things in most of your writes. I sincerely hope you have much brighter days. take care, Candi.

I know this was not your intent, but all I could think of were abused women tied up in some basement of dark room by a mad man and being chained to a wall or post. Abuse comes in tooooooo many forms and seldom does it get the outcry from the masses to put an end to it all.
As any old alkie will know, admitting you have a chaining problem holding you back, will at least make you look for the key!
Many good reviews will come your way, if this gets the chance to be read. I hope mine will be in the first wave of thousands!

Inner strenght.... the essence of the ability to break free from deep restrictions. Extremely good poem.

This is so very true! Very well written this is! I can so relate to these feelings you have expressed here and agree with your views. Only inner strength can get you through the hard times and help lift you up so you can face the problems head on. The only problem is finding the strength to find that inner strength! Sometimes life is exhausting and emotional distress is damn tiring and seems to fight you every step of the way. I like how you have written this poem Candi. You are right...identifying the first step to the solution is indeed the first step. Feelings of suffocation are real and painful. Taking time to reflect on yourself and what you need to do helps to identify what needs to be changed...then it is just a matter of taking those steps to change it...easier said than done! Very deep and true poem and you did a great job writing it! Take care!

A nice write dealing with one's internal struggle. I believe people will definitely be able to relate to this. For I know can. I too have felt similar on many occassions, where feel I'm in restrains and my very movements are restricted. It like your being smothered. The feeling is just absolutely awful.

I hope that you are able through determination and sheer will, to break those chains that bind you. Keep up the good work and have a blessed and wonderful day.
