    -------------------------------------------

The squares began and laughed at the circle. Jiggling with mirth they spied how that circle had such "round" curves, nothing compared to the fine cut edges of the squares. The circle shied away from the squares, fumbling and tripping as he went, rolling on his curves and feeling sullen. Those squares, those uptight squares, they always made fun of his curves, he thought, why not just leave? So he did.

The next day, murmuring around themselves the squares glorified the thought of the circle's faults. Insults came out and they laughed about, even the littlest square giggled with delight as they pointed out how roundish and outlandish the circle was. Triangles were okay, but circles were absolutely despicable, one had to make fun of them.

The squares lay in wait, an odd silence lay upon them as they waited for the circle, to see what ridiculous action he'd do today.

    But he did not come.

What were the squares to do? They had no conversation but to criticize the circle, and now that he was gone, what could they do? They tried conversations about events, they tried playing games, but in the end they just weren't satisfied. The circle had left, and so had the squares' livelihood. One square began to hit the other with its sharp edge, crying out they found the littlest one, and tortured him.

The littlest square complained, why wasn't that no-good circle around to be ridiculed. He after all was just made for insults, being ugly and retarded, the squares just didn't feel the same without circle. It was time to turn over a new leaf for the squares, and they learned a important lesson about kindness.

Then they began to remark on the triangles.

Triangles, not even worth a square, they only had half, yes, half the amount of degrees than squares. A mere 180 degrees compared to the much more powerful 360 degrees the squares had. Triangles didn't care, there were plenty of them and they shrugged the squares off as they had when the squares insulted the circle. Squares stopped insulting them, feeling as empty as their empty insults. They all longed for the circle now, why couldn't he come back? Squares weren't that bad, and they had let the circle into their group, if only to be ridiculed.

"Circle, Circle, where is your round figure?" cried out the squares, searching for him.

Then one square gathered all the others up, and began reliving the days of when circle was there.

How circle had tripped and fallen into a cliff, and couldn't climb up because he always rolled down, that was a favorite.

When circle had tried to sit still, and just rolled away, that too was a laugh, all the squares were extremely pleased.

Then, circle came out and surprised them all, he was hidden the whole time until he could find out that they really did love him.

"Go away circle" declared the entire
    group, in sync.

Circle looked at them, his color turning to a sad blue, they all laughed at this, his shame welling up in the very center of his circular body. Perhaps he was to leave, so he went to the reshaping factory, hopefully to change.

The triangles walked in, toting a hexagon, he was new to shape-town.

How courteous they were to him, he made friends in no time, and enemies in short. Triangles began to dislike him, he was ever so popular, and a new shape, nobody likes new shapes. He was very like the circle, only he had sharp clean edges, a much more desirable trait. Friendly as they were, the hexagon knew on the inside what he really was, just a circle.

Those squares looked enviously at him, as he conversed with triangles who had once been ignorant of his existence. The squares suddenly wanted to be his friend, and this time he was the gossip of everyone for his chic look, five edges were definitely fashionable. He looked at those squares, red with pride as they strode up to him to ask him where he was going that day.

He refused, feeling in his heart this was the right path.

Which caused the squares to plot, how many insults could there be for that dirty hexagon, who refused to be their friends. Yes, that hexagon was a harlot, a rogue, and a thief. The littlest square added with malicious delight he could describe how the hexagon beat him. They moved upon these plans the next day, leaving hexagon once again sad, and lonely. The triangles could not help but look at his figure, unable to defend him from the assault of squares.

Hexagon that day, shed his fine new edges and turned once again into a circle, a square saw this and called all his square brothers.

"So hexagon is really circle? We missed you circle, how sorely we did" said the squares again, in unison.

"Really?" a hopeful color of pink glazed on the circle's surface.

"No" and all the squares laughed more.

The circle felt like he would really leave, but where else could he go? Those squares would always make fun of him, but they wanted him as he wanted to fit in. Perhaps it was just the circle's place to be the scapegoat, he shrugged, if that's possible for a circle, and went about his business.

Interesting... It's humorous, but not because there was a lot of jokes and comedy inviolved, it was more just a nice dumbed down way to describe what many people go through every day... It's hard being the least liked in a group, even if the position is a vital onbe... We all need a scapegoat and it's a mean job to have... I know my grioup has one, and I'm so glad I'm not it... And then how you described the change to try to fit in... That also happens quite often before one realizes that it's best to be you... But... While it was a nice, simple decription of something so common, it just didn't appeal to me much... I don't know, it was just not my style... Well, keep it up

quite the story, it was a fun read, and like what mike already said, i got the same kind of interpretation by it, be yourself, and if you dont fit in with a certain group of people, then fit in with a different group, it reminds me of a saying i heard once... "i'm not different, your just all the same".
    story has a good point.
    take care

i find humor in this but more or less a better social commentary about a shape that tries to fit in with others and yet after awhile of being in the group that shape still wasnt the same as the others. so in the end the shape returned to its original form. i guess the best message i can extract from this is this: you dont have to change to fit in and if a group doesnt accept you as you are then you dont need to be in that group. there will always be a group out there that will. so be proud, be a circle and forget the squares. wonderful write i think it serves better as a social commentary. well done,
