Working and tilling this great earth
Was your intentions from our birth
As we see what the land has in store
Our life will be richer and never a bore
We put our faith completely in you
For the crops and things, us famers do
What will the weather each year be like?
Will our crops die or be a beautiful sight?
The farm animals that we will raise
For our crops and them, we give you praise
When we work and toil with all our might
We begin to see your earth in a different light
Do folks stop and praise you for our farm men
Working in all kinds of weather to bring harvest in?
We praise you for hero's who fight for our freedom
We praise you for farmers who help feed them
We sit at our tables, plentiful food before us
Thinking of those, who worked from dawn to dust
Because of the farmers that's why we're able
To have all this fine food on our table.

this is really good,it is exactly like my life,at least, the one i lived when i was a little kid,i lived on a ranch and spent all my time in my garden, and this describes just how i felt at that time in my life, and it really makes you think about all the things that most people take for granted, like haveing a tabel full of food at every meal, makes you think about all the things that we have that others would do anything to have and makes us thankfull that there are people who go out and work every day to grow food so that we can have that luxury of being able to make something else if what our family makes for dinner isnt something that we care for, this is really good and i hope to read more of your stuff soon

    Keep it real,

      hello Linda.

one of the most fundamental and historically significant value in our society is the job and legacy of the farmer.

line1 you begin here with the toiling in the fields and in L2 I believe this to be the legacy of the farmer? the “our” is that you and your siblings? or do you mean our collectively as mass group/population? again the openness does seem to perpetuate into the next line. but I shall go out on a limb and say it’s a family thing. L4 the “richer” I like that usage meaning to me the richness of life and the closeness of family. L5 a faith in parental figures and it must but great when that is met with satisfaction. however I’m getting this pull yet again to think on a bigger scale here and go with a societal thing. perhaps that is the intent of this write to give of that dual openness to make one think family and society at the same time. L6 and I hardly ever think that what I eat someone had to process that food. it something I know I should do, at least a thanks in my heart for those who struggle in that field. (field having a dual meaning here) now in this line 6 you have “famers” I think you wanted “farmers” L7-9 the elements on how very important those are to a farmer be it drought, too much rain/storms, hail, and frost. so much to contemplate. it must be stressful and tiring to have to worry about the crop and the livestock as well as the well being of the family. I cannot fathom the hardships of the farmers life there are no unions I imagine. never could quite understand how one could work a full day not 8 hours but all freaking day. I think most of us are not cut out for that type of work. I am glad some are. though I do think if one is already in that environment they have adapted to that type of labor. the rest is quite nice the praises and what not. in line 17 you have “dawn to dust” was that a play on words there? or did you mean “dusk”? I mean it seems to work great as dust considering the hardships of the day. well I like it and now I shall go into a little deal myself here in honor of the farmers.

I love family owned farms. but these days they seem to be pushed by bigger corporate agribusiness. now I don’t know how rampant that is here in the U.S. but many other nations are having a battle with multinational agribusiness going head to head with the smaller farmers. the battle is quite complex from dumping food stuffs onto the market place driving prices down. another wicked part of this battle, the GMO’s or genetically modified foods. one major offender around the word is a corporation known as Monsanto. they used to be a chemical company until over time (magically) turned into a multi faceted corporation, most notorious for hunting for intellectual property rights around the world. now this relates to the farmer in a sense of its terminator technology. this is a seed with a genetic code inside to terminate after one yield. they are selling these seeds to mostly poor third world countries thus having them become “seed slaves” for lack of a better term. there are so many suicides that have happened by farmers who cannot support their family. the effect causes a win, win situation for large business. you kill off the crops in the land (unless the farmer is able to constantly pay for more seed), those owners go bankrupt, and then somewhere down the line they can be able to attain some of those lands. And those who control the food become major players on the world marketplace. now I don’t want to frighten people too much but this is something that could put the entire agricultural process in jeopardy. imagine if you will the world food supply having a catastrophe. what would we do? anyhow it is unsettling to think about. but nevertheless all that I have said and all that you have written about should stress how important the farmer is and how we must fight to try to keep it as much as we can in the hands of family owned farms.

    very well done,

    ~mike

This is so very true! I dont live too far away from farm land and there is this one farm that grows mostly everything you can think of as far as fruits and vegetables go. They let you go and pick your own fruits, depending on the season, and it always amazes me at just how much hard work and effort goes into a farm. They indeed work unbelievably long hours and they dont get nearly enough recognition for the work they do. This poem is a lovely tribute to their hard work. Very heartfelt and well done. Take care.

      An excellent write

I have great memories as a child of going to the farmers to pick up eggs and milk fresh from the cow
I can still remember drinking it write there next to the cow

The farmer is probably the hardest working individual on this earth
They bring food for all to have

I say God Bless the farmer
    For without him or her
    There would be no Earth

    God Bless You
    Ron

There is so much truth in this poem and it really reminds me of my childhood days growing up on the farm. I can remember in elementary school sometimes my dad wouldn't have enough help in the spring and he would come and get me out of school to drive an old 50 John Deere tractor for him. And I can remember cutting cotton stalks in the winter time when it was so cold I could hardly stand to stay out there. So thanks for the Nostalgia and I enjoyed read'n this piece...

"I'm from the country, and I like it that way"- to take from a very famous country singer.
I was raised with fresh meat, home made canned goods and fresh air blowing from the newly cast manure from a crazy machine!
A crazy machine goes around in circles kicking the sh#t out of its self- Hahaa.
Many thanks for this tribute to those dedicated families across this world.
A great idea, and one I believe is very heart felt from a very sincere writer. Great job here well done.

This was one of the best prayers I have read in a long time! We do not think about the farmers, unless you are a farmer.
Thanks for waking us up on who feeds the world!

Hooray for the farmers. A very good testiment to the people who work the land so we all can benefit. Your rhyme was good and was not forced - well done.

A very good and enjoyable read. It's like a prayer of thanksgiving, for those who have helped to put food on our tables.
We sometimes forget the hard work of others when we're enjoying the fruits of their labor.
This is a nice poem regarding that, and well expressed.
    Nice work!

Oh I miss the farm so much. I grew up on a farm. I remember the harvesting days. So full hustle and bustle, in the wind and the cool frosty air of the fall. THe late nights dad was out in the fields. Once I married moved away from the farm. I miss it more as I get older now. I loved your writing. It brought back memories of the farm. And gave credit to where it was due. The farmers are wonderful in my eyes. So are you that you can take time to write such a creative poem and share it with us. Thanks and God bless and I shall thank God for the farmers in my prayers.
