This poem is for all of the men and women who triumphantly serve our country defending our freedom in Afghanistan, Iraq, and every American base across the world.

But I dedicate this to my homeboy, Sgt. Brian Applewhite. Know that to me, you’re the True American Hero, and that God Will bring you back here safely. Know that millions of Americans are praying for you. Take care, and keep god with you.

    dotsA Soldier's Prayerdots

    Dear Heavenly Father,

I know that I should get on my knees pray to you more…
Especially now, stuck in the middle of a dangerous war.
Lord, I ask of you to keep me safe from hurt and harm…
And allow no danger to come close to my head, legs, shoulder or arms.
I pray that you could keep all my peers protected from our threats…
So we can all return home and begin to get our lives set.
I truly ask of you to bring me back to the United States…
So I can tell my story of our Independence at the risk of my own fate…
I pray for all my family, worrying day and night for me…
Let them know I’m safe, as long as I walk closer with thee.
My Mom and Pops, I thank you for them raising me the right way…

It’s their love that helps me to rise up to another day.
I pray for all my friends that kept me on the right path…
The one’s that pray for me, during the war’s most perilous wrath.
I hope they continue to shine on me while I’m over here in Iraq…
The extra encouragement I need when our lives our under attack.
Lord I pray that I can go back home very soon…
Because living here, I think I may become a cynical crazy loon.
I ask you to shed your grace over my head to keep me safe…
So I can get up out of this dreadful and horrible place.
I know that it is in you; that I can do anything…
Christ Jesus, you’re the only one that continues to strengthen me.
So to you, I pray that I can hold until my time runs out…
So I can get on the plane and head in the US’s route.
So Jesus, I thank you for blessing me with another day…
And it’s in your name I honor, and I gratefully say…

I could hear an organ playing in the backround of this poem, and a choir. It sounds so much like a prayer, it surpasses a poem. I like the fact that you disregarded rhythm and just sorta let it flow. Your rhymes weren't cliché or predictable, and even though they were simple, they fit. Good job soldier.

This was really beautiful! You really expressed just how great a person you are. You love everyone that means something to you in your life, and you wish for peace around you. I know that it may not come for everyone, because war and violence in inevitable but let us hope you and your loved ones are safe from it. God bless you. Happy thanks Giving.

hmmm you should have a disclaimer on this one...why you ask? because some of us will cry while reading...this just made me think back of the months my cousin spent oversea's...he did come back changed...more cynical...more hard..he sure as hell wasn't the same bright eyed 19 year old boy that went out there...

this post may bring up a lot of debate about the war but truth of the matter is this...our men and women CHOSE to defend us in every shape and form they are committed to OUR safety and they all need our prayers as well as their families...this is a wonderful tribute to these chosen few...

      Dear Lord...

That was all that needed to be said in this poem to make it truly come to life. I loved the emotion that you put in this. You definitely put yourself in the shoes of a soldier. I know all of them long to come home...the sad thing is...many of them that have came home...want to go back and finish the job.

This was a lovely composition. I truly felt every word!

    Much love!

sup man. this poem... its good.

politics aside ( i beleive that america should NOT be in iraq, should NOT be in afghannistan, and im DEEPLY anti-religious, so i dont agree with a lot of your veiws :) ), the poem flows, and you can see the comviction in your veiws.

and seriously guys. "It was Pimp with lots of kool"? get a life. just cause he is black dont make his writings "pimp". This poem is heartfelt, but its well written, and absolutely NOT PIMP.

bloody racial stereotypes irritate the hell out of me.
