    dotsWHAT THE FUCK??dots
    -------------------------------------------

I was reading an issue of U.S News today, and a small piece caught my attention.
It seems in Dover, Pa that eight school board memebers were fired and subsequently harrassed personally for try to find a happy, acceptable balance on the debate of what to teach in school: Evolution vs. Creation.

    iWHAT THE FUCK???

The religious furvor in this country has not only reached an all time hight but it's starting to boil over into every single aspect of our lives. Even those of us that aren't religious are getting hit with this bible thumping bullshit.
On one side we have the Christian Coalition trying to tell us how to live our lives, from what content of TV, videos and music we should partake to what we should do with our own bodies. I'm guessing these delightful diaper stains haven't heard the phrase Mind Your Own Damn Business.
On the other side we have the right-wing extremist. You know, the typically southern, most likely inbred, non-educated waste of carbon that goes around blowing up abortion clinics and playing with snakes. Women should be subservient, pregnant from the age of 16, and silent unless spoken to. Gee Jethro, where do I sign up?
People, this is getting beyond ridiculous. Jesus taught love and tolerance, patience and care for your fellow man. There was no disclaimer that said Good only for those within the same faith. He never told anyone to kill in his name, and the man was non-denominational. Where the hell did all these different religions come from??
We as a nation need to do something NOW before we end up with a religious dictator, or another civil war.

PREACH IT, SISTAH!!! It's about time someone ranted about the state of this country outside of school! The public school system tries to shove the Bible down our unwilling throats...I saw a section on this last night, only it was religion in the Air Force. Fascinating. Rave on, Smartass!

Well ... I know it may not be my business but I also wanted to comment on this piece. I did concur with everything that was said and I despise the fact that the church is so into controlling what we do or what we have to do, you know.

On a similar vein, I must admit I downright loathe those who see priests as people having the definite truth or who lead their lives according to what the Bible says. Plus they not only do that but also tread with disdain people who do differently.

I heard that in the "States" religion still has got great influence over people’s life but I do believe that that has been chancing little by little. Here is different history... unfortunately I live in a [censored]ty conservative country and you wouldn't believe the crap I have to endure every day ……such is life... I guess.

Well …. I don’t want to keep on wallowing in self- pity, I do it every time and I hate it too.

    Wishing you well,

    Ethan.

Hello, I just happened to stumble upon this vent and I must say that the thing that caught my attention was the title :) I didn't really know what to expect. I know how you feel about this whole religion issue, I don't live in the states but I can imagine how it's like. In my country (in South America, where almost all countries stick to one type of religion) religion shapes the community in such a way that many decisions are based upon religion. I live in the same country as Ethan Brody (guy commented previously) and most of Chile is catholic and that's why there are posters, statues, paintings, etc.. of Jesus. I personally don't get annoyed or bothered by uber-religous people, but when they start affecting the lives of the non-religous (myself included) I get really pissed off. Quite frankly for a while I was so annoyed with the ignorance of some extremely religous people that in a way I stereotyped them, but that's a bad thing too because everybody should have the right to believe in what they feel suits their beliefs better. Ok sorry I'm rambling... I guess it's because there's a lot to talk about in this whole religous/nonreligous subject. Another thing that I find really annoying is when the church labels certain music bands as "satanic", I'm a huge Nirvana fan and once I came across this website that explained why Kurt Cobain and Nirvana was satanic and all their music should be destroyed for the good of humanity. Someone should be allowed to listen to whatever music they want to listen and see on TV what they want to see, no one is forced to watch tv shows or listen to cds. Personal choice is something that is ignored at the moment. Anyway the good thing is that soon this will change, with such a large country like the states comes a great variety of people with many different beliefs and lives in general. Even my country there's already some change, we had presidential elections around a month ago and the reason why one of the candidates didn't win was because he supported only one religion, when the actual president supported religous tolerance. Anyway I'm sorry for this longass rant... it's just that I feel exactly the way you do and every time I think about it I get frustrated. Great vent ^_^

Hey Smartass (I love saying that), what's shakin'? I dropped in to read some of your stuff, and found myself attracted to the title of this one (what can I say, I like dirty words). I understand your anger here, but you really shouldn't let it get to you too much. These things are cyclical. In a few years these idiots (who aren't readers, I'll guarantee you that) will be listening to cock rock again and drinking way too much Natural Lite to muster up any political ambitions. I personally think it was that snuff film, what was it called? Oh yeah, "Passion of the Christ" that got them all stirred up recently. The yokels are feeling guilty and frightened, and so they're acting out to try to justify their own lives after what Jesus went through for them (like anybody asked him to). Personally, I think they have it all wrong.

!Sacrilege Alert! (You might go to hell for reading the next paragraph)
I mean, I see it this way: Jesus died for our sins; therefore, we owe it to him to sin as much as possible while we're here. Otherwise, what was the point? Besides, if I'm wrong, what's he gonna do about it? We totally kicked his ass the last time he came down here.
    !End Sacrilege Alert!

What I worry about with the Christian Right in the current political climate is their gullibility. They're so sold on Bush and Cheney it's ridiculous, and you know those guys aren't Christians. Well, ok, maybe GW is (I don't think he's a reader either), but you just know that Dick Cheney prays at some black, blood-covered altar to a Precambrian abomination ("I bring fresh souls to you," Dick said reverently, "my dark master Chthulu!").
At least that's the way I see it.

Anyway, I'd suggest just staying north of the bible belt altogether. True, they have nice beaches, but their god keeps slamming them with hurricanes anyway. Who needs that?

    Ting-a-ling,
    -Chris-

I have always wondered why we as CA havent waged a civil war to take over Nevada...I mean, c'mon, with all the Reno/Tahoe/LV revenue, our budget crisis would go away. Hell, deep down, every Nevadan wishes they were a Californian anyway, so its a win/win...dontcha think? At least thats what I thought when I was living in Nevada, hee-hee!

Yeah, churches and organized religion...there are some truly good people that go there, but just like any other institution...there are flaws, ya know? I think thats mainly based on our own individual perceptions at times. The whole "free will" bull-shee-at. I mean, c'mon, God just wants us to do right by each other...seems like now one can friggin grasp that topic, eh?

Anyway, I am rambling but thanks for writing something that makes me ramble, Hee-Hee!

Noe this is what I am talking about.

how to live eat breath worship and take a [censored]
it's enough to drive anybody crazy.

This article you speak of I believe I read it and the truth is it made me sick.
And personally I just don't understand what all the fuss is about...what ever happen to people being able to believe in what they chosse to believe in and letting a sleeping dag lay?

It's noce to see you ranting again for it seems we share the same feeling on this.

wow Traci quite the piece you have here I think it has touched a nerve, here I go into my rant comment slash what if slash it would be nice slash comment thing…….

no need to post my warning I am sure you are aware that I am doing my comments blind.

ok religious right. I always would say I cannot fault an upright person one who does right and doesn’t make others feel bad by doing so. now while I am giving this comment I want to bring up some of those points you have made here. the evolution VS creation. I think that a person’s job should not be threatened by trying to reintroduce creationism back into schools. I believe there could be a better solution for it. I think ballot measures should be voted on in all our districts throughout our country and have this issue settled. if the people say we need that in the schools then we should have teachers that volunteer to do that and add it to their lesson plans. ~or~ have outside teachers hired on to specialize in that sort of teaching. no one should be forced into doing something they don’t want to do. this goes for prayer or the pledge of allegiance. also if this does become part of the schools parents should have a say in what is being taught to the child. but somewhere along the line the student too should have a voice. this issue is in no way simple it is very complex. I cannot say with any conviction that creationism or evolution should be taught one over the other. I find both fascinating. now along with teaching the student should also be taught to have the necessary critical thinking skills needed to debate any issue. each part of those theories (cause that is what they are if you really get into it) should be investigated and have the student make up their own minds as to what is true and what is questionable. the teacher should never be the final word in anything that is so debatable to begin with. I think many great advances in knowledge could be made if we just let these students think and discover instead of browbeating, having the student feel as if they are thinking the wrong way, and making every damn thing a political agenda, specifically I think of accreditation matters where the government flexes its muscle on schools that don’t submit to their ideas of what education should be. But my hope for having a humane and equal way to settle this issue is really more idealistic than realistic. ok moving on here……

yes the right has gained power at an all time high I would agree. it is part of the patriot movement which those in power have use in every conceivable way to push through agendas and pass nefarious legislation. this is a cycle this country has gone though before, the date for our generation would be September 11th 2001 a past generation would remember the date December 7th 1941 when shortly after a patriot movement swept the country. the enlistment into the military branches soared and the war machine, very well oiled. the main difference is that our enemy was well known and the objective was for the most part clear. still even in that day propaganda efforts were tremendous. today the Bush war machine has taken propaganda to a all new level. we have no exit strategy for this war now why is there no exit strategy? I would assume we don’t have one because we no have intention of leaving Iraq anytime soon. the enemies scattered and faceless, what was it when Donald Rumsfield was asked where is the enemy? “yes we know where the enemy is they are north, east, west, and south” ohh ya thanks Mr. smarty pants. getting back to the “right” our government has used the Christian right to further consolidate their powerbase. Michael Powell had used his position to flex the F.C.C. muscle on radio. this is not just for content that is not suppose to be said on the radio. they have attacked radio programs, independent stations that have criticized the Bush administration. Bush has even attacked a church for a sermon given against the war. the right was never so wrong as they are in supporting this man, this will have serious repercussions not just here in the U.S. but resonating throughout the world.

ok now you have mentioned the radio and T.V. programs. and the how to live our lives and how they have infiltrated every aspect of our lives. the most angering of those issues is the abortion clinics. these acts that I could never understand the reasoning behind it. I mean you kill a doctor wouldn’t it be like the hydra another head will just pop up? ok sorry joking aside cause this is serious. I do wonder this: if you take two people, one a Muslim and one a devout Christian, and they both do the act of bombing in this country, would the Christian have more leniency then the Muslim? these folks who stand out in front of those clinics and shout at people I have seen them on the news they have hatred in the expression and in the eyes. the "shining" countenance I do not see, that glow they like to brag about. it is twisted and quite ugly to behold. I am very sorry but I cannot see these people as Christians, they slander the whole meaning of Christianity. i have been a Christian myself, oh in the days of old, when knights were bold and rubbers weren’t invented I have also been an aspiring Satanist and a Luciferian. and in the middle of it all too with new age philosophy which I have found to be quite likeable and most tolerable of people in general. now these days I have distanced myself rom those extremes and remain somewhere in the middle of all this bullshyte.

well Traci, a lot was brought out here, I am interested to see if this will become more stories. there is a story one that enraged me long ago. in Oregon ladies from a church followed a man into a porn shop. they watched his activities and then later they mailed his wife a handwritten letter telling her everything. that is the type of activity that makes me hate those type of religious nuts who I cannot bring myself to recognize as followers of Christ. thanks for the write and I hope I did not burn your eyes too much. love yas, friend very nicely done here,

    ~mike

small correction that i have caught: after the line "what the f*ck" in bold you have "hight" need a "E" there sugar plum :P "height"

    take care Traci.

I an gonna LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this series! I have been patiently waiting for you to start these rants. You do so in such a straight-forward, in you face, "duh" sort of way that most will have a hard time arguing.

Unfortunately, I agree with Steve, I, too, am clueless as to how to fight it.

It seems that no matter how hard we try, nothing changes the right way.

Like this: Of all the people I know- and you know I know a LOT of people- I only know of two that voted for our current president. So, how is he in office?

I think the country is due for a butt load of turmoil in the next couple generations. America is going to have to go through some radical changes because the rift between the two sides is not only growing wider, but more entrenched. It seems the country has forgotten tolerance, open-mindedness, the ability to "melt" together. Instead we find ourselves being given laws to keep us from hurting ourselves! WTF!

Love this! Good start! What's next??!??

Couldn't agree more, but I'm a little clueless how to fix it.

The average American these days is more than happy to be led down one path or another. Many follow religious leaders, others follow Bush, some follow celebrities or reality TV characters. The important thing is that we must follow, else we risk being out of vogue or even worse.

"Tell me what's important. Tell me what to fear next. Is it terrorism? Meth? Is Christ on his way to judge? The world is such a dangerous and scary place." Thank God (or anything else) that we all have TV sets and email chain letters to keep us informed of what we need to know.

    Nice rant,
    Steve
