We must of humped over 50 miles today.
The rain started to fall and it will probable go on for a week? We stopped for lunch if that’s what you call c rations ? My buddy Vegas got a letter from his girl today, she told him she was expecting in September. The whole platoon razzed him about it but I knew they were all jealous. My First Sargent gave Vegas a break today, you see Vegas is usually is the one who has to go bunker diving . Instead he made me do it. I was scared as hell but new I better do it! I was in enough trouble with my Sargent. When I got in the whole I started shaking like death was in the room. My first instinct was to open fire but I knew better. I was lucky to find bunker empty. All that was there was some radio equipment and a couple of old maps. That night around the camp are First Sargent told us he thinks he has the clap! We all laughed so hard we almost died. Later that night I had first watch and came apon two gooks lighting a cig, there mistake was lighting both smokes with one match. I shot one square in the forhead and fire fight began. The night sky lit up like the forth of July! One bullet came so close I thought it was going to take my ear off! The fire fight lasted till morning and then the fire fell from the sky our boys called in a air strike and it was over in minuets.
Today we learned that Richard M. Nixon is chosen as the Republican presidential candidate and promises "an honorable end to the war in Vietnam”. I hope he wins and he brings us all home…
