Esteban ignored the fiasco that was going on behind him, as he kept his eyes trained on the prize. His attention was wholly focused on the doors to Mojo's office, which were still closed. But of course the scout and bladed weapons master realized that the longer they waited the more precious time and opportunities were slipping by.
He rolled his eyes at the confusion of the crew. Tempest had told him about the new person, Suki, coming on board, but they were partners and shared everything, even occasionally a bed.
Tempest had always had a problem with keeping others informed of the plan. She was a need-to-know person, and she felt that the rest of the crew didn't need to know.
Esteban kept his trap shut about that policy, just happy to be on the inside for once. He was about to turn around and tell the crew behind him to knock it off, when he saw some movement at Mojo's door.
"Heads up, Temp," Esteban said as he indicating the door.
Tempest saw the same thing he did and nodded. "Alright, Esteban you're on my 6 o'clock. Suki on my 9, Drake on my 3. Tuesday and Meria, you keep the rear clear," Tempest said as she drew her blaster. "I want to have a clear path if we have to make a hasty exit."
"Understood," Esteban said as he readied his two blades. "On your go, Cap'n."
Tempest nodded. "Go," she said as she launched herself from behind the wall, where she and her crew had been hiding in the shadows. "Mojo, you've got some explaining to do!"
Dressed in a hiddeous green suit, Mojo Green, surrounded on both sides by huge goons, spun on his heels as he saw Tempest coming from around the corner. His two thugs started for their weapons, but Esteban had his blade in his hand a second before the first thug moved to grab his weapon. The blade flew from Esteban's hand and sliced into his, pinning it to the wall.
Suki, on the other side, had her weapon out and trained on thug #2, while Tempest had all her attention focused on Mojo.
"Tempest, Darling, I just got back into town, and I was just coming to..." Mojo began but Tempest leveled her weapon at his throat.
"Uh huh, wanna start again?" Tempest said her patience running thin. "Talk, Mojo, why did you bring us here and then ignore her for the last 3 hours? Are you setting us up?"
Mojo swallowed hard. "It wasn't my idea, Tempest, I swear," he said in a whinny voice. "I was just told to hold you here for 24 hours before I give you the job. That's all."
"Why?" Tempest insisted.
"Don't know, didn't ask," Mojo said and Tempest narrowed her eyes.
"Say goodnight, Gracie," Tempest said. Her finger moved to the trigger of her blaster.
"No, wait, wait," Mojo said holding his hands up in surrender. "I did hear some things."
"Like what?" Tempest said easing her finger off the trigger. "And this better be worth the 12 seconds I'm giving you."
"It will, it will," Mojo said trying to smile. "You know me, Tempest. I always have the good info."
"9 seconds," Tempest said moving her finger slightly.
"Okay, okay, Rubic," Mojo said. "He's doing a number on your twins, but he's working in conjunction with someone else - an Orion. They know you smuggled a family of Bajorans to Earth. They also know your Ferengi broker, Qol, is dead."
"What?" Tempest said narrowing her eyes dangerously, almost to slits. She glanced over at Esteban, who shrugged.
Qol didn't mention any trouble when he last saw her. But Esteban did remember her strange behavior. She was even more cautious than usual, and thickened her "male cross dressing" performance when they were in the bar, playing it macho. Or at least macho for a Ferengi.
"Qol is dead," Tempest repeated.
"Didn't know that did you?" Mojo said sweat trickling down the side of his face. "Bet that is worth a pretty price as far as information goes."
"Yes, now you get 20 seconds before I kill you," Tempest said gritting her teeth. "Anything else?"
"Qol messed up with some Orions, found out something he wasn't supposed to. I don't know what, but I do know they are coming here, for you."
"To do us harm?" Tempest asked.
"I don't know, but I'd say it was a good bet," Mojo said soaking his bad green suit with sweat from his arm pits. "They wants something, something Qol had, or they thought he had."
Tempest sighed. "Alright," she said moving her blaster from Mojo's throat. "We're leaving. Esteban, go find the twins and get them back to the Phoenix."
"We're leaving?" Esteban said pulling his knife out of the thug's hand. The Human man screamed and cradled his bleeding hand to his chest. Esteban walked out without turning his back on the thug. Suki moved up from Tempest's 6 to take Esteban's place. She did this automatically, and Tempest suppressed a smile. She had already passed one of Tempest's first tests - anticipation.
"Yes, but not empty handed," Tempest said bringing her gaze back to Mojo's face. "I want what I came for. The job."
Mojo looked at her as if she was crazy. "You'll still take the job?" he asked surprised.
"At 30% higher than my normal rate," Tempest said. Mojo's face turned as green as his suit.
"What!" he sputtered.
"Hey, you were just going to lead me into a trap, Mojo, you're lucky I'm leaving you with your genitalia in tact!" Tempest growled.
"Okay, okay," Mojo shouted and reached for his jacket pocket. Tempest's blaster came back up, and Mojo slowly pulled out a data padd. "Take it, here."
Tempest took the padd and scanned it quickly before looking back at Mojo. "Smuggling?"
"Yeah," Mojo said licking his lips nervously.
"30%, Mojo," Tempest reminded him as she took a step back. "Meria, we good?"
"All clear, Bosslady," Meria said from just inside the corridor.
"You'll be hearing from me, Mojo, and if your gonads mean anything to do, you'll have my money," Tempest said her eyes like green fire.
"Come on, guys," Tempest said walking backwareds towards the door. "We got what we came for."
Tuesday stood in the back ground watching the whole conversation with an eye on anyone that might come around the corner. She was prepared, and had Esteban not thrown his knife, when he did, hers had been ready as well. She smiled seeing his skill with the knife, and made a note to herself to ask him where he learned.
Her own skill had come from an old man, that had been taught by his father, and so on and so on.... he had taught her all she knew, until he passed away, then she taught herself. That was years ago...
"Come on, guys," Tempest said walking backwareds towards the door. "We got what we came for." Tuesday pushed away from the wall and then out of the corner of her eye she saw movement. Quick as a wink her knife flew true and hit it's mark, pinning the man's hand to the wall behind him, and causing him to drop his weapon.
The thug that Esteban had nailed before, had pulled a weapon out with his good hand and had it aimed at Tempest. Tuesday walked towards him, a snarl on her face.
"Never ever try to shoot someone in the back... it will come back to haunt you." As she pulled out her knife, she got up close to him so that only he could see her face, and she shapeshifted into a Breen face, then back. A smile in place, she turned and looked at the group.
"Sorry... just had to show him who's boss..." she walked forward, hips swaying.
