Did you ever really know
There are witches in the woods
Laughing
Clapping their drums
To the beat of the wind…
Claiming in-no-cence?
Did you ever really know
I believe in fairy tales?
Snow white is still sleeping…
With blood on her lips….
With dead sparrows on her window-pane.
Did you ever really know
There are witches in the woods
Laughing
Dancing
Claiming in-no-cence?
That prince was once a frog
Somebody kissed him…
Yet he still hung down
In that marshy bog
With all those silly talking fish…
Eating mosquitoes…
Eating flies…
It was the butterfly,
Who was the end of him.
Tasty things with lovely wings…
Sometimes leave a bitter bite.
Did you ever really know
There are witches in the woods?
The little mermaid is the foam in the sea…
Peter Pan grew up, and
I hear Cinderella is a house wife…
Still cleaning floors with her hair.
She writes desperate postcards to her Pumpkin.
She thought those glass slippers,
Were diamond dreams.
Did you ever really know
There are witches in the woods
Laughing
Dancing
Clapping their drums
To the beat of the wind
Claiming in-no-cence?
Their ginger bread houses
Are just about out of glue
There are only a few more children
Left to eat…
There are not very many flowers
Left to devour
For Mary died, and her ghost can’t sew
Those silver shells…
Did you ever really know
There are witches in the woods?
There will be nothing left soon
For them
To cook.
Did you ever really know
There are witches in the woods?
Like it has been mentioned below I noticed the real ending to the little mermaid, but the others I don't know. Although I thought Cinders did live happily ever after but in the original the ugly sisters were made to dance to death in white hot iron boots, nasty. If there's another meaning to this other than there's no such thing as a happy ending or something along those lines I'm afraid I' ve missed it. As I tend to with your stuff which makes up for its obscurity with originality and intrigue. This was well written and had me hooked as well as thinking from the get go so nicely done.
I liked the title and how you effectively used morbidity to bring your story to life.
I loved, "That prince was once a frog Somebody kissed him… Yet he still hung down In that marshy bog With all those silly talking fish… Eating mosquitoes… Eating flies… It was the butterfly, Who was the end of him." This whole thing reminded me of something perhaps that would be in a Tim Burton film. Great! Love,Peace,Joy~Feel,Experience,BE~~~ tif
The endings you gave to the poems seemed familiar. The one where the little mermaid is the foam in the sea, that was the first, original ending i read to the story. I heard awhile back that most children stories, really all were more gruesome. I really really liked this poem, it made me think of that quote, "a story with a happy ending, hasn't ended yet" Anyone can believe in a story with a sad ending.
this is a good poem . I like the way it was wretten, the periods and the comma marks that you put in help to better read and understand this poem. i like that it was fairy tale kinda poem.
"Did you ever really know There are witches in the woods? The little mermaid is the foam in the sea… Peter Pan grew up, and I hear Cinderella is a house wife… Still cleaning floors with her hair. She writes desperate postcards to her Pumpkin"
