Not long after the girls had left. The barkeep left from behind the bar to retrieve some more lemons. As he did so he was intercepted by a man that propped himself up by the swinging pantry door.
‘So have you thought about our offer?’ He said eyeing the last strand of pink hair as it went through the door.
“I have.” He said with a heavy sigh allowing his shoulders to drop.
“We own all the bars in the district. We have the best pay, top of the line entertainment and the best food in town.”
“You bastards have under cut me and taken my lively hood.”
The man stood erect “how long do you think you can hold out? Be smart, take my offer and leave town.” He said leveling his finger at the owner.
“Agreed, you’re forcing my hand and putting me in a real tight situation. You can have the bar.” He said.
“Your credits will be transferred to your account in 10 minutes. You have until this time tomorrow to begonia.”
“Don’t worry you won’t hear from me again.”
“Who were those two girls that you were talking to?”
“Some girls looking for their friend. That’s all.” The bald man said.
“I see.” The well dressed man said. Then with out another word he left.
Leaving the bar he stepped out back to a long black car that hovered 1 foot off the lot. Accessing his analog communicator he hit the auto logger. The face of a woman appeared on the vid screen. “Put me through to the Don.” He said.
She just nodded and reached off screen and flicked the channel.
The hatch at the rear of the car opened. Gur the Jew Slid into the back seat of the car and closed the hatch.
The Don’s face appeared.
“The last bar has been acquired. We can move on with the next phase of our plan.”
The Don nodded his approval.
“It appears we have another problem, a loose end.”
The Don frowned, a very dangerous expression to any of his associates. It made Gur the Jew rethink his offer tactically.
“Take care of it.” The Don said in a gruff voice.
“Conceder it done.”
The vid screen went black.
Not far from the bar a figure shrouded in the long shadows cast off by the lights and rear reflection off the street silently watch and waited as the twins flagged down a cab.
As he looked out his window his analog receiver rang. Reaching over he grabbed the receiver. The back of his head bobbed in and out of the light for a second.
The receiver clicked “I’ve got another task for you. We have a pair of interlopers. Find them and take care of this problem.”
The receiver clicked off as the creeper drew up his plans. He followed the cab from a safe distance and landed with in visual range of the motel.
Haruko and Mamimi returned to their room about an hour after they left the bar. Both were greeted by Rei as they entered the bedroom.
“Ok we don’t have long I have the feeling that we’re going to raise ship in the next 8 hours. Everyone has been checking in. Ok listen closely cause here’s what we’re going to do. Rei you’re my back up contact Nashsan and direct her to our location. Mamimi we’ve got some work to do. We need access to police records and any possible suspects.”
Ayanami’s dress gathered and bunched at the waist line. Not because of the way she was standing but because of the uneven flooring. She loitered looking at her sisters with her ruby red eyes had that far away look. She stood there strangely quite, as Haruko gave out the next steps in her plans.
Haruko’s exposure to Rei should have lessened the effect of her disturbing mannerisms. But it didn’t really she just found new ways to take her mind off the strange girl’s pale, disturbing appearance. It was that intense gaze and her eerie, calm way of speaking that chilled her to the bone. Often Rei would just say nothing a delayed response of sorts that bugged her, the most about Ayanami.
Rei could sense this and lowered her eyes to the floor like she normally did. After Haruko finished her speech Rei simply disappeared. Simply not interested in standing around and listening to unnecessary rants or bantering. She felt very odd in situations like that and often opted to duck out or the lime light. Being trapped in a computer had its advantages one being she could deal with her shyness a lot easier.
Haruko turned away from Mamimi sensing Ayanami’s disappearance. “Damn it, I really hate it when she dose that.” She said seeing how she just up and left with out saying a word. It really urked Haruko to no end because she didn’t want to get into the habit of assuming that Ayanami understood what she was saying, or not.
Haruko explained to Mamimi that they needed a cover and while she hacked into the police data base for any possible suspects and notes on the crime scene itself.
Mamimi located a local news agency and found that 2 of its reporters had gotten Montezuma’s revenge while on vacation. A perfect opportunity to get in as reporters.
“Ok, found what I need. Let’s go.” Haruko stated quickly gathering her stuff and taking Mamimi in tow.
“Ehhh.” Urped Mamimi in response as she was tugged out of the seat and taken out side with Haruko.
The taxi dropped them off and flew away over the pub. The crisp moist air made steam bellow from their nostrils.
The girls were met by the pub Owner, who was packing his fusamobile out back. “Ah there you are.” He said. “I was beginning to wonder.”
“So what do you have for us?” Haruko making sure that both she and her twin stayed in the shadows.
“Your Ferengi friend came in here about 2 days before you showed up. The first day he was talking with some people. People I’d never seen around here before. But he’d show up again at the sometime the next day right around 5 pm. Then that was it never saw him again.”
~Five, hmmm that means Qol must have returned to her flat 45 min later. Everything seems to fit and points to several suspects the police have. Strange though that there were no implications.~ Haruko grinned “Ok thanks, you’ve been very helpful.” Then bowed at the waist and was off to signal another cab.
“It’s 3:50 am and we have about 5 hours left. Nashsan has met up with her contacts. But there’s just one thing missing…” Haruko trailed off as she began to think.
The twins took the cab back to their motel room and gathered their stuff. No time to sleep if they were going to get to the bottom of this and get back to the ship.
Jumping on the Vespa and slinging the guitar across her shoulder she there her leg over the seat and strapped on her helmet. Followed by Mamimi who straddled the seat?
The scooter growled and grumbled but its protests were ignored. Finally after some coaxing it sputtered then started humming. The trip to the police station was a short one.
“Hi I’m Minnie Delslinger of the London times. I’ve got a few…”
Haruko was cut off by the night clerk “Fish tape over there, 5 credits.” He exhaled as if he had rehearsed it several thousand times.
Mamimi and Haruko huddled around the display and sought out the reports for that day. Finding the reporting officer that day was important because in a lot of cases. They never truly reported all their findings to the press anyways and she wanted to check her info besides.”
~Just as I thought there are several people the police have on record as potential crime suspects. Since they have not committed nay crimes all they can do is monitor them.~
Mamimi plugged in a PADD she had snagged at the pub and through the police evidence locker. ~Ah ha. Qol’s Iscolinear tracker. Now we’re getting some where.~ Mamimi thought while beaming the items directly out to the Odessa.
They left the police station and headed back to the Odessa.
The news unit link site listed several records of a warehouse site that would cause random computer outages.
It had seemed that Qol was looking into this before she died. Haruko thinking that she finally had this thing wrapped up programmed the Odessa to land at the warehouse at the warf.
Both unaware that they had been leading a mysterious figure to an object worth killing for.
