Straight as Steel
I wish I could leave it
Alone. I feel a need to
Move when there is in
Actuality no need to
Move at all. Drink and
Spittle on my collar as I dream
Of the man I used to be. But
There is no going back to the
Glory days. The days of
Jubilation are gone. And truth
be known there were no
Glory days. I wish I
Could leave it alone, lay
My head down and sleep deep,
To sleep deep and well. To
Remain at ease in place when
There is no need to move. To
Look into other’s eyes and
Look back straight as steel.
