Like the sand between my toes
summer's cloudless days
And soaking up the sun's warm rays
Timeless, drifting, free form hours
Bird chirps, butterflies, and flowers.
Already feeling chill in air
Trees dropping leaves, becoming bare
Warm days grow shorter, losing light
Autumn's dampness shrouds the night.
"Please don't go" cries summer heart
Too soon the evening shadows dart
Once more I feel inner child's old fear
Will summer come again next year?
Like an old friend, she slips from view
As Autumn gains in firery hue
Age has brought new whispered fear
Will you see summer come again next year?
In bright barreness of early fall
I now hear mortality's frosty call
Praying to God as I feel a tear
Please let me live just one more year.
Goodbye my best friend,
as summer comes and summer goes......... |
