    Description:
When I say “Auster's characters” I ‘m thinking of Paul Auster and his latest novel “The Brooklyn Follies”
The rest is self explanatory, I guess.

    -------------------------------------------

    Something terrifying happened...

I would say that it’s beautiful
    If it wasn’t so terrifying
    How fiction meets life sometimes.
    Strange coincidence occurred.
    While I was soul searching
    Auster's characters were reconnecting
    All regaining positivity.
    Their optimistic virtual ink-and-paper world
    collided with real crushing buildings
    And walls burning.
Just when I thought that sun was rising
I heard the news, something terrifying happened.

That wild beauty I know so well
    Mesmerizing and terrifying
Now is the grave for so many souls
    Barren soil imbibed the blood
    Of innocent ones
    Of guilty ones
The misfortune doesn’t know the difference.

I was soul searching, only to find my soul
Grieving for the faceless, nameless souls
Who died because in this God forsaken land
We live by the foolish rule
That living is easy, and anything goes
But never stopped to think, that
    Dieing is even easier.

      This poem is really deep
I thought of this poem as one daydreaming and then they heard the news about 911
I really liked the way you finished this poem
to me you spoke of how one need not fear death
I for one look forward to eternal Life but I am not rushing it
    God Bless

i like the lilne about how living is easy and anything goes, but dying is even easier. i know what you mean about something being beautiful if it wasn't so horrible.

Though I'm not familiar with Paul Auster.. I did find this write to be interesting.

    Very nice opening >
"I would say that it’s beautiful
    If it wasn’t so terrifying
    How fiction meets life sometimes."

..and a pretty deep saying here that caught my attention >
    "Barren soil imbibed the blood
    Of innocent ones
    Of guilty ones
The misfortune doesn’t know the difference." < - it's true that misfortune doesn't know the difference. It falls on us all.

A thought provoking read. Just a bit abstruse.. but good, none the less.

Not enough praise was showered upon this piece. It seems there are a lot of sleepers on ES. They must be sleeping to glance past this one. Maybe you need a "catchier" title, which I say jokingly, but seriously I do think it should be considered. Anyway, this piece is excellent!
    "Their optimistic virtual ink-and-paper world
    collided with real crushing buildings
And walls burning." I love those lines!
Nothing is really jumping out at me saying "revise me" other than I don't think dieing is the right spelling, unless that is intentional. But again, this piece is excellent, thought-provoking, and praise-deserving.

I liked this. Living is much more easier than people think. For example, here on ES...it seems like sooooo many people say how life sucks and such, yet...they keep waking up everyday and coming back, ya know? "Put YO money where yo mouth is people!" Hee-hee! sorry...dont mind me...I have just gotten more than enough of my fill of that "soul searching" crap that says like what you say in this write..."I was soul searching, only to find my soul"
Hee-hee! Friggin "soul searching"...such a waste of time cuz like you said, its not ever really gone and you never really lose it...it just gets neglected from time to time and/or ignored. Anyway, sorry for rambling and such on your write...it just made me think and use my brain, goobada-goobada!
This write definately needs more comments and views...but...I am glad I stumbled upon it!

    Thanks for sharing!

hm. this was very interesting. a lot of differant good ideas. "we live by foolish rule" <-truer words were never spoken...or written, whatever.

"I would say that it’s beautiful
    If it wasn’t so terrifying"

i love that line too, there's a lot of them i like in here. overall i think it's a great poem, and a great statement about how art, no matter it's medium, reflects the society we live in. and maybe we shouldn't be so shocked when we find how easily we can relate it to our everyday lives... awsome job. deffinatly a favorite.
