The breeze blows softly while we sit on the deck.
Grandma tells me of the olden days as the birds peck
At the ground.
Robins chirp and fly back and forth to their nests.
There's no need to work, today is a day for rest
And relaxation.
The sun is slowly setting in the pale blue sky.
Momma says the day must end, but I don't know why
It gets so dark.
It's a beautiful day for a walk into town.
Momma takes me there to buy a new gown
For the father-daughter dance.
We return home and grandma is cooking dinner.
Her famous apple pie is always a winner
At the county fair.
I love the country life and momma does too.
We do things the old-fashioned way, but that's what we choose. |
