I hail thee, mighty Saraswati
And bid thee welcome for thy brief stay
Thou hast given the gift of learning to me
And for that I thank thee today.

Thou hast given me mastery of verse
And thou hast blessed me with knowledge
Forgive me if I seem a little terse
For these past weeks I have been on edge.

Permit me to ask, mighty goddess of wisdom
Why hast thou given me so much?
Thou hast given me words and freedom
I need to know the reason as such.

Why hast thou, O mighty goddess
Given me so much that I needed
When thou hast seen how those in distress
With lack of knowledge have been obstructed?

Why hast thou made me so knowing
That I shall not suffer as time goes by
When there are so many who are not able
To save for times not yet passed by?
